Semi-auto or bolt action, sniperifles.

Simple question really. Just seeing what people prefer.

I personally love the sound and feel of a semi-auto. Yes it doesn't kill with a single headshot, nor has that "final" sound to it. But what it does have is a good fire rate, a lovely sound to it, forgiving recoil and versitility at long and med range. To me it is a fun sniper counter rifle.

How about you guys? Which do you prefer and why?
This is more just a question on the two weapon types rather than faction. Yes I am that curious. :P

I hate the semi-autos. I prefer the bolt action, but SMG > all else

Sniping is a very small niche in this game.

Since you get a such a huge bonus for head shots it really just makes since to use a bolt action - unless you are the rare type who can consistently make multiple head shots at range on moving targets.

I must admit that I'm hopeless at the follow up shot that is required to kill someone and so I have to say that I prefer the bolt action rifles.

Having said that, I should give the semi's a go and see how I get on with them. If I'm in Infiltrator mode I'm either sniping or using my SMG for CQ work.

99.9% of the time, it's bolt action for me. They're just more satisfying for me.

Im no sniper, but Id say that bolt for long and auto for short.

Long as in the field or taking out repairmen. Mostly the ranges where you have all the time you need.
Sort as in and around a base. Covering areas where you may not get the time to line up that headshot and need to do damage.

The problem with the semi-automatic rifles is that they're completely eclipsed by SMG's at short-range and bolt-actions at mid to long-ranges. This would be different if Infiltrators couldn't cloak, especially if you could put a red-dot or ACOG scope on a semi-auto to turn it into a DMR, but since you can cloak, at 50+ meters you have all the time in the world to line up a good shot. At less than 50 meters, the SMG is just better and has more utility.

Imo, they should either dump and refund battle rifles and just allow you to put CQC scopes on semi-auto rifles, or dump semi-autos and buff battle-rifles.

Got auraxium on all the bolt actions so I'm working on the Semi-Auto's now which before I regarded as beneath contempt. After using them for a week or so my opinion on them is changing, they're not so bad and have honestly gotten me kills in situations I would not have gotten them with the Bolt Actions. So I suppose you could say I was raised Bolt-Action, believe in Semi-Auto's? Ha.

Wow. Nice work, that's 10000+ kills all factions combined if my math is right. 1200 a piece, 3 different basr's for faction, 3 factions..?

^This.

As for the topic, i prefer boltactions just cause OHK. I haven't used the Longshot very much (i bought it on my old NC alt, i forgot i had it and deleted the alt), but i have like 2500 kills with various basr's (1800+ with v10, 100+ Parallax, 550+ with Rams.50). I love the Rams50 the most just cause it looks and sounds awesome.

I'd love more loadout options for all of the marksman rifles (battlerifles, scoutrifles, semis and boltactions). I mean you can get a flashlight or grip on all of them (who the hell would put a flashlight on a sniper-rifle?), but no compensator for example?! dafuq?

Even if he meant only one factions(which is how I took his meaning since he only links 1 toon in his sig) it means pretty much the same thing since(as far as I know) bolt actions are identical across factions except for the scope graphics.

I like the gun, but I've never liked the sound of the Rams.50. It sounds like it has a silencer on it even when it doesn't (it makes a kind of "pew" sound when it fires).

It should sound more like this.
I want it to sound like the poor sucker getting by it is gonna get ripped apart.

I don't always snipe. But, when I do, it's with a bolt action.

Bolt. It's just too satisfying to get ohks with it and too frustrating to hit someone in the head with a semi-auto and watch them run away.

And to Snoopy, saying sniping is a very small niche: I used to agree. But when you start taking out high value targets such as mounted AV turrets that are hammering your team's tank columns, you realize just how big of a difference you can make. I feel like I make a bigger difference with the infiltrator in general than I ever do with the light assault. Perched on a hill, you can eliminate engineers repairing vehicles, AV soldiers, other snipers, everything. If you position yourself right you immediately become a massive asset for your team.
