weapons "time out" after a certain distance?

on one that new Miir video i saw some vanu plasma weapons disappearing in mid flight in lots of the battle shots. now i know there needs to be some limit, but it looks to me that it is set way to low?

have i been eating too many pain chips or did anyone else notice that?
