Question Voice comms.

With the addition of VoiceIP to the beta, I have taken a closer look at voice comms. I know that some people have problems connecting to the in-game voice comms. and/or hosting them because of routers, firewalls etc. and I for one have the same problem. I can join but I cannot host my own.

I recently played with an outfit (for about 6 hours) and went onto their TeamSpeak2 voice channel (which they pay a fair bit for) at the same time. As a result, I was able to communicate with the outfit members -not just in my squad or just playing PS but all who were connected to the channel. Using TS2 it is possible to set up permissions and groups so if you don't want to hear what the others are saying, you can join a different group.

The quality of their voices was only affected by microphone quality and my connection because their TS2 server wasn't affected by PS as somebody hosting VoiceIP is. And of course, a CTD didn't stop the communications either.

As a result, the coordination and communication between the entire squad was improved greatly and it was also a lot more fun to be there.

I would like to use voice comms. in an outfit (if I join one or if I form one) but I don't want to rely on VoiceIP because there are too many things that can go wrong or cause problems yet nor do I want to spend loads of money on a TS2 server.

Any ideas/comments/suggestions?

Thanks,
Ultimatum.

SOE has indicated they plan to allow people to install the voip as a server that they run/operate themselves, much like other offerings. In this way they would be no different than other options. The difference with the integrated voice besides being tightly integrated with the game, it has low latency, sounds cleaner, uses less bandwidth and is easier to configure for NATs/firewalls as it uses only a single TCP port than any other voice comm available.

Anyone feel like tapping out a few lines to describe how to open the port necessary to host the in game voice comm, for us Linksys users?
