I finally won a beta account at Game Over Online, but seeing as the results were posted May 2nd, and it's now May 5th, and I haven't gotten any email or CD, am I even going to be able to play before beta is over?
I remember reading that SOE was going to end the beta a couple weeks before release. Well, that would be tomorrow the 6th, so unless I get a CD in the mail tomorrow and "a couple weeks" means more like 10 days instead of 14, I guess I'll only have a beta CD as a souvenier or something. Has anyone in beta heard when exactly they're cutting off the servers?

Dont worry, i won a contest awhile ago (1 or 2 weeks) and still haven't gotten the cd.....but i'm strong, i can wait till release. Just if you guys last in beta till retail. if its cut 3 days short, I'll die. before retail.

Well, the game has to go gold at least a few days if not a week before the release date, then they have to produce all the CDs and package them, send them to the stores, etc, and I'd be surprised if they keep the beta servers going after it goes gold. On the other hand, since working on PS is going to continue on past release, they may use more testing and add additional tweaks during that time between going gold and release, even though that would require patch downloads on May 20th.
My main concern was that the beta was going to be ending in the next day or two, but it sounds like you all are thinking it'll be much closer to release when they end the beta. I'd be fine with even getting a couple hours in beta actually. Even if I only mess around in the training. lol

Just got this in my Fileplanet weekly email.... haven't decided if this means beta is over at the end of the week or just fileplanet giving accounts... I hope it isn't over at the end of the week.... lol
This is the LAST WEEK for FilePlanet Subscribers to join the beta test of one of the most exciting games of the year, PlanetSide. Described as a Massively Multiplayer Online First-Person Action game, PlanetSide is the latest masterwork from Sony Online Entertainment. The Beta will be over at the end of This Weekaccounts are limited and will be gone SOON, so act now! |

With all of the stability patches they are comming out with now, I'm sure that they will leave beta open for a little while longer so they can finalize all of the CTD, lag, and drop bugs that are the main probs at the moment. As for when the door closes, who knows. It wouldn't suprise me if they let it run up or almost to release so they they can trouble shoot most of the probs before the launch. I tell you one thing, I've had a blast playing even with all of the few glitches that need to be fixed.
