is it already going a bit unbalanced?


They told everyone they wouldn't be adding special skills to higher ranks, but now there CR4 and up ranks have uplink ability, bombstrike abilities, and on and on...

I think it 's not a way of balancing the game, i think it should be rather supportive and like with someone has to trigger it from an AMS or something, i just mean, what the 'ell you think?

basically it takes dedication to get to Cr4 if you have been leading squads since you started you will be a lower BR its a way of making up for all that BR your missing out on.

By "bombstrike" he means the Oribital Stike ability you get a CR4 which takes outfit points to use AND has a timer which will probbally be a LONG time.

The EMP ability that they will also get will be usefull for suprise attacks but not much else because it will also have a timer.

It was taken out during beta for balancing (i think) so it should be balanced now it wont be that good tho it will probbally need re balancing when every 1 is BR 20 and CR5

Orbital Strkes are hardly something new. They're about as new as Platoons. However like Platoons they simply haven't been implimented yet.

I remember making a joke thread about how cool suitcase nukes would be, and it would be random and only once a day - one nuke and empire, and it would wipe out everything out side of the base. Whate I got, was 5 pages of people wigging out because they didn't get the joke. The sad thing was *I* was joking.

We have no idea how much damage this thing'll do.

We have no idea how much of an area they will cover.

We have no idea how much warning people will have before the blast comes down.



If I had to guess, I'd say that it would cover a diameter of around 20-30 meters, and do enough damage to one-shot an unshielded turret. I'd also hope that people would have around 10 seconds warning, perhaps more.

I'd be suprised to find that this thing will be able to hit an entire base.

I'd be suprised to find that it could 1-shot a healthy and unshielded galaxy, sunderer, or AMS.

I'd be suprised if it were instantaneous.



Now lets assume for a moment that I am miraculously correct in all these things. 10 second warning, 30 meter diameter, 1-shot a turret damage.

What can you do with it?

Nuke a couple turrets if they're close together... including tower turrets.

Blow the top of a tower clean off. Everyone outside, on the roof... crispy critter... unless they bail over the railing and run, or can get back in the door before the strike comes down. A non-VS max that's away from the door is quite possibly doomed, though they can auto-run through the gap in the railing near turrets (but not on a watch tower).

Put a serious hurting on an AMS (and kill anyone who just respawned and couldn't get clear)

Fry a couple ANTs as they sit there refueling the silo. Kinda like real ants with a magnifying glass. Heh.

Take the place of a jammer grenade to clear away deployables (but that'd be a waste... just use a fricken jammer grenade for real)


What can it NOT do (again, assuming I'm right)?

*Hit a moving vehicle

*Hit infantry that aren't brain-dead/lagged to hell


So, given these parameters, this strikes me as a purely offensive weapon versus towers and bases. Which seems fair when you consider the defensive boosts they have in the works (shields, the already in place auto-firing turrets).


SO QUIT YOUR BITCHING.

Sheesh.

Yes. They COULD implement a hit-everything-in-the-soi/kill anything/instant hit WRATH OF GOD. But they won't. That wouldn't be any fun (except for the one person calling down the strike, and imagine the grief they'd get).

I would imagine a shorter 3-5 (maybe even a commanders choice on fuse length[could be useful if friendlies are nearby]) second fuse with the ability to one-hit an agile. I would think it would be powerful enough to kill an ANT, wraith, Basilisk and maybe Harasser. I would imagine a very noticable "Warning beam" eminating from the beacon with corresponding faction colours. I would also like to see some sort of energy effect that could travel a short distance inside open base and tower doors. This side effect would be slightly less powerful than the actual blast. Maybe with a plasma burn effect.

What do you think.

maybe we should wait a week or 2 and find out but i sure hope it's cool looking i don't care how much damage it does, i just want something that's going to look like a nuke! mushr00m clouds ahoy!
