You have the ability to put yourself out of viewing distance of anybody except others with the implant
That's true, but my beef was that I could easily find people to put under the crosshairs at 8x, but the bolt driver simply didn't have the range to shoot them. It doesn't do much good to be able to see the enemy sniper 600m away if you can't return fire...

I guess it would be nice to be able to see someone's hand sticking out of a tree from 399m and shoot them, but I didn't find it to be worth an implant slot as a sniper. I liked surge (to let you get to high places you couldn't climb otherwise), audio implant (shows who's sneaking up behind you), or advanced targeting (find those one-shots in the crowd..but only if you're sniping from closer than you probably should be).

The bolt driver definitely has the range to shoot them, even at 12x. So does advanced targetting not work in conjunction with range magnification? I'd assumed it would and had also considered that for my next slot just to figure out who I could one shot from way out.

I can't shoot anything over 400m away with the bolt driver -- I can see people at more than 400m, using only 8x zoom...

Advanced targeting seems to crap out somewhere around 200m...so if you're truly in bolt driver range, you probably won't get much use out of it. I have not, however, used it in conjunction with the range implant, so I dont know if that would give you more distance.

Disagreed. It is hard as can be to snipe at 12x, but well worth the practice. You have the ability to put yourself out of viewing distance of anybody except others with the implant. There is a large difference between 8x and 12x, but the bolt driver loses very little accuracy over that distance. Range magnification can mean the difference between that perfect hiding spot and standing exposed on the top of a hill waiting for a reaver to invite you to the spawn tubes. If you're a casual sniper it might not be worth it, but if that's your main lot in life it's absolutely necessary.
when i had it...every person I could shoot at 12x i could shoot at 8x. I play with max visual distance and can peg a person from as far as the game will let me see with 8x.

the zoom is good for spying and reporting when yer not carrying a bolt driver and want to see something other than 2x.

I find my bolt driver always shoots left and high. At large distances I sometimes have to aim slightly right of the small player..even sometimes fire without a red crosshair to hit them. The targetting on the bolt driver is ever so slightly off and I have won many sniper battles because of it.

I've shot people at 12x that I could barely see even with 12x on and who weren't visible at 8x. That makes it worthwhile to me.

im guessing its easier to move around at 8x, so u can fine tune to someone then zoom in further and nail them fast

Do you have your drawing distance set to maximum?

I have NO trouble, on fog-free maps, finding people who I can line up in the sights, but even if my aim is perfect, the bullet simply WILL NOT travel that far. It stops at 400m, period...

Okay, I will be doing much experimenting tonight. Either my crack habit has gotten out of control or this isn't correct. I could swear I'd fired over that distance, but I could certainly be wrong and am more than happy to admit it when I am.

Surge and Darklight are freaking awsome.

I can't tell you how much i use (and love using) Surge. It almost always manages to catch my enemies by suprise when they see me slowly walking towards them from 100 yards away, label me as no imminent threat, and focus on someone else. Then i holster my weapon, flip on my Surge, and i'm on them like white on rice.

Another great tactic i use is to turn on Surge and run crop circles around enemy MAXes while they struggle to turn around fast enough to shoot me. All the while i'm unloading on em with my Jackhammer (AP rounds).

And last of all, i use it for retreats. To gain that extra few seconds that will keep me alive long enough to get to another room, or hide behind a tree from gunfire. Then i use my medics and engineering skills on myself and i'm as good as new in 6-7 seconds flat.

And of course i use darklight to simply illuminate those annoying infiltrator bastards. A priceless (and amusing) ability.
