AMD or Intel?

Okey Dokey, I'm saving up for a PC that is strictly for games and graphical design software (As well as Flash, Dreamweaver and Fireworks). This site I've found (Novatech) lets you build custom PCs and the processors it offers are AMD or Intel. Should I get the AMD Athlon XP 2700 (2.17GHz) or the Intel P4 3.06GHz 533MHz System Bus?

I know the Intel is much faster, but it's also 120 more and I've heard that AMD is better, even tho it's only 2.17GHz.

Help please

I'm a big proponent of AMD. Grab a mobo with the nForce2 chipset and you're good to go.

For games the AMD 2800+ (on a board w/ nForce2 chipset) actually performs better than a P4 3.06. On the other hand, the 3.06 kicks it's ass when it came to video decoding and the like, where hyperthreading came into play. Personally, I use AMD, much of the reason being that the cost/power ratio is better with AMD for what I do (which is game, surf the web, and program).

Intel is more stability, and AMD is more power but AMD do over heat alot more and faster then a intel.

okay first of all, the gigahertz doesnt matter like you think it does: more is better. intel has brainwashed you into that. So a 2700 amd would perform much the way that a 2.7 intel would, but with the amd you can overclock and yadah yadah.

The front side bus means squat: dont buy into it. GET AN AMD

Hamma is right. I'm an AMD man personally, but its not like Intel is bad or anything.... nowadays its simply a matter of money and prefrence, they pretty much perfom the same...

I don't see why AMD is always considered better for overclocking. I can OC my 2.4 ghz p4 to 2.8 well within normal parameters, and with a stock fan.

And, onizuka, you're right to say that a 2700 Mhz AMD would outperform a 2700 Mhz intel, but an AMD 2700+ would perform very similar to a 2700 mhz p4. Big difference.
