Question Update before buying?

Hey, my friend is getting PS today and should have it in an hour or two. The problem is, he has dialup. Is there anyway he can get the patches before getting the game? Thanks.

Like hamma said, you can only patch the game through the station launchpad.

Although, i think that they shoudl allow patches to be downloaded of the official site or soemthing of the sort.

Does anyone know whether or not it's possible to copy the game folder from one comp to another instead of downloading the patch?? I know the game would have to be installed as normal because of changes to the system folders and to the registry, but once installed, can you just copy the whole folder to a few cds to save someone on a 56k from having to dl the whole thing??

I personally know that you can just copy individual files and it works fine, just not sure if I got lucky with what file I was moving.

I'm sure theres omething to prevent htat from happening, as it would be something related to just burning the game.

Not exactly, because you're copying files after they are installed, and not the pre-installed files off of cds. Normally, you can't just copy folders since the install changes the registry and system folders/files/whatever. But if the person has a legit install, then all of that stuff would already be there and you should just be able to copy over the whole folder. (i'd run a full scan afterwards and you'd have to get rid of files like 'characters_username.txt' of course)

*edit* actually, wisdom in this would be to go through the files and only move one's that have a different file date or size.... or just wait for launchpad to get to one of the huge files and just move those really large ones once you know what they are.
