Okay.. What drains NTUs

I have been in fights with my own empire now over this...

Since everything else drains NTUs and NTUs naturally drain over time (very slowly) then why wouldn't vehicle terms drain NTUs? I mean when a base is at 30% I'll see 20 people buy a vehicle and in 3 minutes the base is neutral.

So, what's the deal?

And please quote your sources, and add links... don't just say "oh i know, we know, he knows, my friend did tests..."

Vehicles Terminals do drain NTU's.

I heard from somewhere that seemed credible at the time that buying vehicles and equipment doesn't drain NTUs, just spawning and auto-repairing. Can anybody clear this up?

The online manual doesn't mention that buying vehicles drains NTUs. Just having the vehicle term operational does though, but I don't see that any extra are used because the term itself gets used.

I did discover that having motion sensors and spitfire turrets deployed in the SOI drains NTUs though.

*edit* btw... http://planetside.station.sony.com/h...l.jsp?id=55473

Wow! I am going to be alot less careless with my spit and Motion snesor placement then. I had no idea that deployables could be to blame for some power outages I have had in the past.

Actually from what I've heard they didn't drain ntus... for a time that is. A while ago they didn't drain ntus because of some bug or something? I think they patched it and implemented it though. Sorry no officiality on this though. You'll just have to trust me

errrm, pulling things out of my semi-hazy memory here but I'll try to answer anyway. as far as I know it's spawning, equipping, and auto repairing.

A List would be best..

Hello,

So give people a list please. This is often a source of arguments during base captures. What is it exactly then that uses NTU's?

From what I have understood, the list would be:

1. Using equipment terminals
2. Using medical Terminals
3. Deploying SpitFire Turrets
4. Deploying Sensors
5. Repairing of damaged terminals, phalanx turrets, and spawn tubes.
6. Spawning at a base spawn tube.

What about mines?

Am I missing anything?

Thanks all! An actual list to refer people to would be great.

Now, quotes..
SporkfirePS wrote..
I checked on this today, and the onyl things that should eat up NTU's are, in fact, spawning and autorepair. Using terminals does not use NTU's. I'll check the online manual to find the inconsistency.

Thanks

Hello,

Well, the online manual is what is causing the confusion partly then when it says:

1. Each time a player respawns at a facility a small amount of NTU's are consumed.
2. Each active Motion Sensor or SpitFire Turret deployed within a friendly Sphere of Influence (SOI) also consumes a small amount of NTU's over time.
3. Finally a tiny amount of NTU's are consumed over time just to maintain the operational status of terminals.

Jarlo, does this mean the online link provided above where I got the above information from is incorrect? It is official SOE released information afterall. I see what you mean about using terminals, so now my list would be:

1. Spawning at the base's tubes.
2. Auto-repairing of damaged terminals and phalanx turrets.
3. Deployed turrets and motion sensors.

I just want to get a detailed and exact list to avoid arguments online.

Thanks everyone,

I trust Spork and the devs 100x more than the manual. The manual also says the prowler has more armor (lie) and the thumper paints the ground with a reticle where the grenade is going to land (lie).

I'll browse the manual a find a few more incorrect quotes to pass the time..

Capturing bases, killing enemies, & destroying their equipment will give your character Battle Experience Points (BEP). As you accumulate these BEPs your character will go up in Battle Rank. As your character goes up in Battle Rank, you will earn Certification Points and Implant Slots.
The PROWLER is the largest main battle tank. Having the most armor for a tank and a 360-degree capable turret with dual 100mm heavy cannons, the Prowler is certainly able to devastate many targets in short order. The secondary gunner is able to control a dual rotary chaingun, which is a small turret atop the primary turret. Naturally the sheer size, weight and firepower of this tank makes it slower than any of the main battle tanks.

Oops found a few more before i run home..

Amp Station - Provides self-regenerating shields to Wall Turrets thus upping their defensive capability. Also increases the radius of friendly Spheres of Influence thus extending their domain. Additionally it extends the operational time of Facilities by decreasing all NTU consumption rates.
Bio Lab - Decreases the time it takes to successfully respawn at Friendly Facilities. Also upgrades Medical Terminals to Advanced Medical Terminals.
Tech Plant - Provides access to advanced assault vehicles such as the Reaver, Heavy Assault Buggies, and Heavy Assault Tanks.
You need a tech plant for a sunderer as well, despite it not being on the list.

Hello,

I was just trying to get an exact LIST so people will be able to spread the truth of the NTU draining issue. So according to Spork, Sensors and Turrets do not drain energy? He never specifically said that, but he did say only spawning and auto repair of damaged equipment. We've seen a ton of arguing over this online, so I'd just like the masses to know once and for all what the bottom line is.

This thread has led me to believe then that only two things drain NTU power as the game is coded now:

1. Spawning at the base's spawn tubes.
2. Auto-repair of the base's terminals and phalanx turrets.

If this is correct, please spread the word folks. People need to know this, because I'm sick of idiot maxs and reaver pilots blowing up turrets senselessly! hee hee

;-)

1) Spawning at spawn tubes
2) Auto repairs:
- Auto repair of generator
- Auto repair of terminals
- Auto repair of Phalanx turrets

Just added the gen in there as you seemed to have forgotten this bit of kit, an important part of an engineers job is to repair this, as not only does it take about 30 mins to auto repair, it also eats loads of NTU.
