Not trying to spread the OF disease over here but this really bugged me. Several people are complaining that the Sparrow MAX was nerfed so that you couldn't fire all your missles then lock-on for half a second. Can someone explain this to me? The monsters eat aircraft for breakfast and they said it was nerfed, and it seems only because they actually have to aim it. I'm not flaming NC here that use the Sparrow...but please someone explain to me why would someone say that the Sparrow was nerfed.

AA maxes are fine. i dunno about the deal of shooting all rockets then locking on later but anyway the TR AA max -NEEDS- to be brought up to par. the flak moves so slow and at large distances its not even worth trying. they simply get away before the flak reaches them.

Sorry dude, but the TR AA MAX freaking owns!! You're not using it right. The main difference between the TR max and the other empires is that the TR MAX can't "Missle Lock" on the aircraft. Most people (like you) think this is a dissadvantage. If you catch an aircraft just hovering nearby -- which happens more often then most notice -- it's dead. Simply anchor down and left loose -- aiming is very easy and most of the time the guys realizing what's going on 2Late. The AA max is also good while the target is moving -- with a little lead you can easily litter the sky and take down any bird. Personally I can't wait to own the new appearance of the Liberator. Good luck.

You think the TR maxes are bad, try ours. The orbs aren't that particularly fast. The sparrow is by far the best AA weapon availible, IMO. that combined with the Jackhammer make a formiable force en masse. Which is the only way I ever seen NC. 2:1 odds aren't the best when you're the one man down

unless of corse u have a lancer and your outside...a guy with a lancer will pwn an AA MAX and a Jackhammer both in less then a minute...
hell, if u want to really get into it, the people who bitch about our AA MAX are the same who bitch about Strikers. People who cant fly planes well enough to have certs for them, cant manuver at all, dont know how to shake a missle, and actually think the gal and Liberator should be able to outrun and outmanuever the lock on missles. People who bitch about the JH are the same people who rush headfirst into a room and think that they should win with a sweeper shotgun because they feel privalaged. So basically, stop your bitching, because if your bitching, your the one whose sucking. |

My alternate character is NC. I decided to take a look at the NewCon MAX units awhile back before the recent patch. I equipped the Sparrow configuration and went out to find a Reaver. As soon as I spotted one, I shot a few rockets at it, but it quickly used it's afterburners to get away. I guess the pilot decided to make another pass, because from that point on all of my rockets began to fly in another direction. Being an NC newb, I had no idea what was happening until I watched the Reaver fly back over the courtyard with the rocket I had just fired trailing behind him.
So, again, I found another Reaver after that one was destroyed. I intentionally fired some rockets at the Reaver and then looked slightly away from the target and watched as each rocket seeked out and made contact with the idle hovering Reaver. I think the changes were a step in the right direction, before it took little work to shoot down an enemy fighter. ghost |

The thing with the sparrow is this
1) The rockets will not track if you don't have lock when fired. (noproblem with this) 2) Lock takes a very long time to get at close range, and shockingly short amount at long range. ( Should be the other way, and this just makes sparrows reaver bait.) 3) Lock get's lost in seconds, even if you are holding your crosshairs over the target... meaning if your lucky you'll get 3 tracking missles in the air. That's not enough to do anything. (this really seems more like a bug, but... eh... who knows.) 4) Spork said they adjust nothing without telling us... he reiterated that about the sparrow, he's thinking it may have slipped past him now. http://boards.station.sony.com/ubb/p...ML/005164.html And finaly, without the Sparrow, the NC are just food for aircraft... it sucks... Not speaking to any other faction, because I don't play them enough to know, but with a few sparrows out we can hold the skies, wihtout we are bait, and reavers will strafe around a base we're holding. In conclussion, I really don't mind if they adjust the sparrow, make it a bit harder to use, it really is too easy as it was. But TELL USSSSS. That is all Night

Being NC and having Sparrow cert i know its been changed, it used to be dumbfire, after you acquired lock with crosshairs you could empty the clip and all the missiles would seek, also you could fire few missiles into air then lockon and they would home in, like striker does.
After the patch you have to attain lock for each missile you fire, and BEFORE you fire, so no locking after the missile is shot, no lock at the time of firing=no seeking. I also have liberator cert, and to be honest TR and VS AA MAX'es are totally unscary when doing high alt bombing runs, you can totally ignore them. Then again after the patch Sparrow will just murder high alt Libs and Reavers.. TR/VS AA MAXes are screwed, plain and simple, they need work. Skyguard also got changed, now it has slowass projectile which you need to lead ridiculous amounts, and they wont reach high altitude bombers either. But, TR has Striker, which is kind of comparable to NC AA MAX, and TR grunts usually do have Strikers, so when you fly over TR owned base with Liberator you'll have around 10 people shooting strikers on you, so TR has it covered there. Only factions able to down liberators from ground to high altitude now is NC/TR, only. VS have to rely on Mosqs/Reavers, Lancers wont reach/you can lead proplerly to actually down it, the AA MAX plasma orb thingy is slow, and you have to keep aim on the target all the time, which is nightmare on long range. 3 clued NC AA MAXes can keep the skies clear, TR has no problems, they have strikers everywhere, VS, screwed. |

And as sakuc pointed out, the Vanu are kind of lacking the AA department. I have shot down my fair share of skeeters and reavers with a lancer, but its damn hard when they start moving, and at a high altitude? Haha, its not even worth the ammo. Reavers and Skeeters can easily out run those bright orbs by just tappin' the Afterburners, hell I have seen them struggling to catch up to a Lib. -PD |
