Im curious on how many people have tried the rocket rifle and how many are still using it?? I seem to be the only person on NC emerald who uses it religiously. I mean come one, it packs a good whallop, although it used to get me alot of grief!

As far as Special Assault goes, it all depends on the situation. I use the Rocklet primarily against MAXs, Turrets (base and spitefire) and vehicles. Against Infantry I'd much rather use the Thumper with plasma and don't forget a case of jammer grenades for those pesky minefields (also good for disabeling both kinds of turrets) and of course the Decimator is my MAX killer of choice.

I use it when I'm driving an AMS without an escort. Some arrogant Reaver or Basilisk starts plinking me with bullets. I hope out and fire off a secondary fire at them. This usually either destroys, or scares off the enemy.
The Rocklet has become my "Bandit" weapon. ie, do as much damage as possible before I get wasted. I'll fill the air with rockets and try to take as many people with me as I can. However, I've decided the best tip when using the Rocklet is to aim low on troops. Shooting someone in the foot does almost the same amount of damage as a direct hit. This makes it much more effective when fighting infantry. Against vehicles... just shoot a ton of rockets and hope you get them before they get you.

i use it...awsome wep
try to get high up. If your shooting down on people the almost direct shots can kill them just as fast as direct. They are great for CC clearning (secondary), and u can make people take cover easy (no one follows u down a hallway...dunno why but i have plenty enough time to reload and pop back out with another 6 shots) |

I have been using it as my main weapon for maybe a week now In fact, today I unlearned Heavy Assault as the Jackhammer seems like a BB gun in comparison to the tremendous damge the Rocklet Rifle can inflict. It is also suprisingly accurate, even at a somewhat long range. The secondary fire also proves to be exceedingly malicious, and can wreak havoc to even the most entrenched defenders (even those damn Pounders anchored in the CC, or worse, 4 of them lined up in a tower). Also, in secondary fire, the Rocklets keep firing even after your demise, so surging like an idiot, guns blazing into certain death, proves just as fatal to the enemy as it does to you.

I us the rocklet primarily outside, or for clearing a hallway, but mostly I stick with the thumper and decimator. The rocklet is great for medium range attack, and like was already said, always aim for the ground below target. Its also important to lead your target signiificantly if they're moving.
Yesterday, I came up agaisnt a large group of vanu who were camping the backdoor hallway ( at least 20 of them). I just opened the door, emptied a clip of plasma nades with my thumper, while strafing. Then I swithced to my rocklet rifle, put in secondary and finished everyone off before they had a chance to run out and get me. That was nice. I wouldn't drop HA, if you have both. The one problem with special assault is the splash damage. Hitting anyone at close range (esp indoors) does a lot of damage to yourself. So if you have both HA and SA, keep them both. Yeah the rocklet rifle is my favourite gun right now. Short to medium range is where it's most useful, cause even though it's accurate to long rage, the rockets seem to lose a ton of damage as they get further out. You should definitely keep your heavy assault though, the best way to use it is to fire a salvo into the ground near a bunch of troops, then drop to a knee as you whip out the minichaingun and finish tearing through whatever's left of their armor.
I do have some probs with friendly fire though, but nowhere near as bad as that damn thumper-- I think they should change the name from Special Assault to Grief Assault. |
