Connection issue with cable(not PS realated)

Ok so i just installed MW4 mercs on my computer because i am going to rejoin my old Clan. but i have found that i can't join any multiplayer servers. I'm thinking it may be a modem issue that is blocking the ports used in player hosted multiplayer server games is ther any way to "crack" my modem open to these ports?
No ileagal "uncapping" type things plz.
PS: I can connect to PS fine.
