Incorrect. They can be caused by herpes, but that's the cause in less than 1% of the cases found. Most of the time they're caused by chapped lips and/or acne.

The absolute best med I have found is called CANKA

It numbs the shit out of them and coats them so they heal up well.

They are often caused by Herpes but those are the ones that are typically on the lips on the outside. The mucosal/gingival apthous ulcers are typically just due to trauma and/or stress.

You will notice you get them during test times, emotional stress, or sleep deprivation.

I'm bored so double checked some stuff for you. The sore you have sounds like an aphthous ulcer, which is inside of the mouth.

i get them all the time inside my mouth, they take forever to heal because i keep tonguing them and they hurt like crap in the morning. i usually get them because of stress.

If they are caused by stress, how come I've never gotten them? I've got enough stress for four or five people. Stress relief? Ask Squeeky why he has a custom title.
