My first personal computer has 4 K (yes K) of RAM. Hard Drive? you must be kidding? I loaded programs from cassette tape - later I went hi-tech and got 360K 5 1/4" Floppies. (I remember 8" floppies also) My CPU ran at a blistering .985 Mhz - yes not even 1 Mhz. Later I upgraded to a whopping 16K of RAM. I actually soldered a second set of 16K chips on top of the first ones to make it go to 32K ram months before they even announced 32k was possible. My first "PC" was a 10Mhz 8086 XT with 1 Mb of RAM and have had one of each iteration thoughout the years .. 286, 386, 468, Pentium 1, Pentium 2, and Pentium 3. I skipped the Pentium 4 and went to AMD (currently 2100XP with 1 Gig of 3200 DDR ram, Asus A7N8X, 120 Gb 7200 rpm Hd) Needless to say I have seen personal computers all the way from the Altair to current - and it's been quite a ride! |

If you actually did buy that computer (which you didn't for the reason stated by Pyro_Man) I think you are a fool for spending $8,000 on a computer that will be trumped within four months by a $3,000 computer.
You would have been better off getting a $1,700 computer that would have 90% of the power. Squick |

Yeah... it ain't possible as per reasons above, so assuming you're just making a mistake about the chip set (understandable)
My Rig that only costs around $1000 will spec to within %10 of that one. So enjoy not having the 2-4 grand extra you spent.

I don't go back to the Tape drives. I was growing up on the atari and the single game console TV back then. My first PC was the 5.5" floppies. My buds I work with had tapes and you had to program your own games on them. You placed a tape in the drive and pressed pause and record. Then the wrote out the program and unpaused the tape and that saved it.
From my buddy that was working with one of those: "load*.*" Wolf |

Like it's a big mystery Pryo
You know what's really funny though? Everyone saying "Ha ha! you wasted all that money!" has no basis for doing so. He didn't spend a dime on it. Hence the "spoiled bastard" option in the poll. If you I had someone else footing the bill the price wouldn't bother me a whole lot either
