Wireless routers

I need to install a wireless LAN at home. Right now I only have one main PC, but will probably be upgrading to two PC's upstairs in each of the bedrooms. My PC is in my office downstairs, along with the main internet connection (Cable). If I were to install the router downstairs, would the signals be strong enough to connect to the two PC's I want to put into the bedrooms? If not, do I need to install the router on the main level?

The router I'm looking at right now is this one: Dlink 802.11g router
I've heard some good things from Dlink, but would a Linksys router be better? I'd be happy to see what the rest of the techies here say about which is better.

i heard the linksys is better from PC magazine. thats the only reason i have a subscription is because of how they talk about routers n such. and its free to me. also my uncles (one owns a software engineering comp, one works for him but used to bulid his own switches) say that its not strong enough to make it go upstairs. You could put a wireless router downstairs and then theres prob gonna be a wired port so u could run the wire upstairs and then plug that into another wireless router.

an 802.11g not goin to your entire house, that sound like an interfereance problem, the 802.11g should easily go past that, into you yard and then you neghbors house(in some cases). but i prefer wired, 2x as much speed, but if you have a laptop get a wirless/wired combo, the wired is so much cheaper unless you absolutly need wireless for some reson.

I have that router for my laptop. Works great. One thing to realize-- place it somewhere open, walls and shit bounce the signal around.

I would like to wire the whole house, but I really don't want to go ripping walls and stuff like that. Something that's easier to install is what I was looking for, and going the Wireless route would be better, IMO. My next house, that I build, will already have a server closet and have each room wired for the Internet.

From what I've been able to gleen from you people here on the forums and in chat, I can do this. I'll need to install a repeater on the main floor though to get the signal up to the bedrooms upstairs.

Most wireless routers now are sufficiently powerful to permeate through a house and outdoors. One of my friends actually went driving around the city with a map, a highlighter and a laptop and found all the areas where he could connect to other people's routers and highlighted them. You can get security for this if you want, btw.
