You could probably spend the money on more practical and inexpensive weaponry that would be better suited for the likely situations. (More snipers, buy a set of that reactive stuff from the Army, I mean, c'mon, laptop gun!?. Use your imaginations here. And I love the manufacturer's description.

They wanted a mini gun? god that like saying, we don't trust your police to the point we will bring a mini gun to fend off the hordes of assasins.
Yeah Peace keeping with a minigun, sounds like a conservative idea to me.

Yeah see there are a few problems with this garbage. Miniguns are not fired from armor. The *ONLY* "minigun" that has EVER been mounted on mobile armor was an air defense system (also known as "anti-air" by the non-hablars)that was mounted on an M113, and that was Vietnam-era. If I were the leader of the free world with access to weapons, I sure as fuck wouldn't use a 40-yr old piece of equipment like a -113. I'd go with a Bradley if it was dirt road or a Marine Corps LAV (and not that piece of shit Striker) for hardball. The only small-caliber miniguns in military service are mounted on helicopters and the occasional slow-moving plane. I would hardly consider a helicopter as "mobile armor".
Furthermore, tanks and mobile armor do NOT accompany a presidential cavalcade UNLESS the cavalcade is an entirely military motorcade. And since the President is a civilian and thus protected by civilian agencies, and thus travels mainly by civilian cavalcade, odds are that would never have happened any way. The only time a president is in a military cavalcade is when he or she is traveling to a US Overseas base in a forward area. And even then, its generally in suped-up armored full-size Chevrolet Suburbans. Last edited by Firefly; 2003-11-17 at 05:49 PM. |

Yeah, I know, arguably the most important person in the world, as they say. But I can't see a situation where a minigun would be useful in any way, except for a full scale street war or armed riot, in which case I'd imagine you'd be fucked eventually anyway.

Why do we need fighter aircraft? I'd have a small contingent of about 8 Eagles at Heathrow or Gatwick, whatever's closer, but yes to the helicopters. In case of emergency, riot police go into action, Pres gets whisked out by a Blackhawk to Heathrow/Gatwick.
A minigun is excessive. I don't think that the crowd will go that violent.

The gun katas. Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly. |

You guys realize the mini gun is most likely mounted on the damn black hawk right? Think it through people, it makes sense. Although I'm sure you guys were the CIA's first choice for security, but you weren't availible because you were too busy telling the rest of the world how to run from you desk, I think it's safe to say the Secret Service might have a clue what they're doing...
