Chapter 20:Combat Preperations

Jack saw him self smash into his own body inhabiting the jeep inside the tube that was the warp gate. There was a flash of light and then darkness. The Enforcer Jeep emerged from the warp gate on Cyssor. Jack, Jen, and Bruno were all still inside, but Jack was unconsious behind the wheel. The big jeep started to careen out of control. Bruno quickly reached between the front two seats and grabbed the wheel, and pulled on Jack's leg to get it off the accelerator. The Enforcer rolled to a stop just outside of the warp bubble and a squad surrounded the vehicle. A medic pulled Jack from the jeep and gave him a shot, he woke up thirty seconds later.

"Hey, Jack are you ok?" Bruno asked him calmly.

"Uh yea... Im fine." He sat up from the ground and looked around the continent, rubbing the back of his head. "Holy crap, feels like I got hit by an AMS."

"Yea we went in one side of the gate and when we came out you were unconsious." Jen told him as she ran up to him. Jack was slowly being helped to his feet by a few soldiers now.

"I had a freaking weird dream too."

"What about Peace?" Bruno asked.

"I dont remember, just know it was freaky." Jen glanced at Jack and they got back in the Enforcer and drove to Aja. It only took 20 minutes to get to the base. The northern wall was still blackened from the combined smoke and ash from all of the shooting only 5 days before. Jack poked the soft spots that used to be bullet holes. The regeneration chambers had done a good job. One more two hour session in one and he would be fully healed. The first 3 days after the incident had 3, four hour sessions each day. The result was rapid healing. The jeep came to a stop outside of the hangar that house Jack's reaver. The snot nosed kid was still making very fine adjustments to the firing mechanisms for the aircraft's cannons and rockets. He looked up at the three of them saluted and gave Jack a tumbs up all in one weird movment. The group walked on towards the barracks and officers quarters. Bruno thanked Jack and went to find a bunk. Jack started walking back towards the Enforcer. Once he got there he unhooked the hover dolly stacked all of the tools on it and brought it into the hangar where his reaver was parked.

"Jack?"

"Yea?" He turned around and answered Jen.

"What is all of this stuff for?"

"We have to do some digging. And what were digging for isnt exactly light."

"Care to tell me what it is?"

"Nope. You will see tomarrow morning." Jen looked at her watch in responce, it was only 1:30 in the afternoon.

"So what do we do now?"

"Gotta make sure there is a Galaxy for us, and I need to get my guns ready, then we sleep for a little while." Jen looked up at him, smiled, grabed his hand, and started happily walking down the tarmac towards the control tower with him. It caught him off guard at first but after a few moments he gently smiled. "Besides." He thought to himself, "There is not many people here today." They got to the tower and Jen released him from her grip. It only took a few moments to get the Galaxy to show up at 1 in the morning. Jack started walking towards the officers quarters with Jen in tow on his hand again. Once he got there he started ringing up his weapons. He spawned out two Gauss rifles and handed one two Jen. A bunch of ammo came next along with two AMP pistols. A CUD was next, a bunch of grenades followed, and finally a decimator. He threw most of it on his back and walked towards his room. Jen followed. The door slid open and the lights turned on. Jack dumped it all on the left of the door. He walked back out and the door shut behind him before Jen could set foot inside.

"Where are we going now?" Jack looked over at her and smiled.

"Im walking you to your room." He grabbed her hand and held on to it tightly. It only took a minute to get to Jen's room. They stoped and looked at eachother, Jen smiled up at him.

"Jack. I... I had alot of fun in the past two days. Um, yea." She giggled, got up on her toes to reach him, kissed him really quick, and ran into her room the door shutting behind her. Jack leaned up against the wall next to her door and rubbed his eyes. He heard the door open again and looked over from under his hand. All he saw was the flash of her hand from around the corner as it grabbed him by the shirt and ripped him around the corner into her room. Surrounded in darkness he felt Jen's hands running down his chest.

"Suprized me again."

Chapter 21: A Secret Revealed

Jack blew into his hands to warm them in the cold night air. It was 0045 and considering the tropical climate of Cyssor it was down right freezing at night, something that didnt happen back on Earth. He thought to himself. The galaxy still had not showed up. The squad was parked next to the Enforcer. Tetryon and Draygo sat infront of it facing Jack, snoozing inside their heated suits. Rat was struggling to not fall out of the drivers seat of the Enforcer and Bad Kharma waw sprawled out over the gunners station. Bachmann, Ivan, Hope, and Faithless were leaning against each of the four tires and Jen was snoozing on the hood with her feet on the back of the MAX armors to keep her up. Jack scanned the skys for the transport untill he finally spoted a faint glimmer on the horizon from the north. It approached rather quickly and set down, the warm backwash of the engines heating his frozen body. Jack keyed in his radio and pressed a button. A loud and annoying noise filled the head sets of the squad and they all woke up at the same time.

*ksh* "Ok you guys, lets get this stuff on the bird." The squad slowly got to their feet and the Enforcer followed the two MAXs into the aircraft as they locked down into the proper stations. Jack and Bachmann pushed the hover dolly into a slot under the Enforcer and the rest of the squad squirmed by the Jeep and sat down at their seats. The overhead restraining bars slid down and locked them all into place. Jack walked up to the cockpit and yelled up to Monkeydude, "Lets get the hell out of here, and make it quick we are 15 minutes behind schedule."

"Yes sir." came the reply as the big airship took to the skys again. Jack walked back to the hold and sat down next to Jen who was nearly strangling her rifle.

"Heh, you ok?" Jack asked as the restraining bar came down over his head. Jen looked over at him nervously.

"Yea, Ill be fine." She leaned over and wispered to him, "Thanks for staying with me." Jack looked over at her and smiled again. He noticed half the squad eyeballing him. He looked down at his rifle and started to take it appart and check it over and over, the bolt driver he was carrying was in perfect condition and so was the Phoenix launcher. The galaxy droped down as it passed onto the snowy continent of Ceryshen. It rolled down through the step ravines and valleys untill it came to a point 3 clicks from the Air Tower that FoE used to use as its base. The rear hatch of the Galaxy flung open and out poured the squad, poised and ready for battle.

*ksh* "As expected nothing is here, lets move. I can see the tree from here." Jack whispered into the radio. The squad grabbed the hover dolly hooked it to the enforcer and they procceded towards the tree as the Galaxy took off into the distance to hover miles off shore.

*ksh* "Sir Terran patrol to the East, bout five clicks out." Bad Kharma reported.

*ksh* "Ok, keep your eye on them." The squad continued on through the tundra untill they came to the the tree. Under it was a patch of loosened frozen soil. Jack removed the tools from the hover dolly and started to dig. Faithless followed along and the rest of the squad guarded. Jen stuck close to Jack the whole time, trying to look as professional as possible. Ten minutes later the hole was dug and the chest was lifted by a MAX out of the pit. Jack smashed the lock with his boot and the chest flung open. Inside were the thrusters from 10 Vanu MAX armors. "Pay dirt boys." Jack said more to himself than anything. He looked up and suddenly the air around him was filled with tracers and the smell of burnt cordite.

Chapter 22: Down to the Wire

"Everyone find some cover! Engineers deploy ACEs as tank traps!" Jack screamed at the top of his lungs. He turned around grabed Jen by the arm and tossed her in the hole. "You stay right here!" She nodded up at him. Jack turned back to the situation around him. Nearly fifty Terran Republic infantry, a Prowler, and a harraser buggy were surrounding them. They were all situated on a ridge line that made a horseshoe shape around the tree , fireing down into the squad. The engineers were quickly deploying their ACEs which even quicker turned into a large concrete barrier. The FoE squad fired up at the hill. The Enforcer jeep spraying the hill with rocket fire. Gauss rifles and Cyclers alike traded fire with eachother. Hope let a Phoenix missle. It streaked up the hill and landed amongst a group of TR rifle men. Bodies flew everywhere from the blast. A plasma grenade was tossed at another group. The blast of searing hot matter spread over a few TR and they burned into nothing screaming at the top of their lungs. Heads started to explode on the ridge line as Jack started to use his Bolt Driver. Draygo launched a volly of rockets from his MAX's weapon which smashed into the small buggy on the hill. It was rocked by explosions and blew to pieces. Fragments of the buggy started landing everywhere. Suddenly all the fire stoped. Even the Prowler ceased fireing. The squads attention turned to the tank on the hill. The last group of TR were standing in a group around it.

Bachmann stood up and looked at the group. A single shot was heard and Bachmann fell to the ground with half of his torso missing. Hope stood up and screamed "LET EM HAVE IT!". The squad released a huge barage that cut down everything infront of the tank and then they started running up the hill. Bachmann was thrown into the Enforcer and it slammed on the gas fireing rounds at the tank the hover dolly right behind it.

"Circle around and hit it in the ass!" Jack cried. The tanks turret turned towards the enforcer and let a shell loose. It streaked by it and hit one of the tank traps destroying it. Another shot landed to the left. Hope cleared the sumit of the hill and saw a group of 3 TR standing behind the tank. He fired all three barrels of his Jackhammer and watched as they were cut down. Pulling three frag grenades off his belt and tossing them under the tank it exploded and the turret was half way ripped off as a few shells cooked off inside. Jack sighted in on the last TR who was running down the other side of the hill. A shot later and he lay dead on the ground blood pooling around his torso. "Ok boys, looks like the job is done lets get out of here." Jack turned around and looked at the tree. A group of ten Terrans were charging down the hill from the opposite side of the battle. "A late flanking manuver." Jack watched as they ran towards the tank traps. Suddenly a flash of light erupted from the center of the position and two Terrans fell dead. Jack turned around and saw that Jen was not with them.

Jen droped back down into the hole and Jammed her last clip into the gun. She had seen the Terrans from a distance and used up most of her ammo trying to get them. She had already goten 7 of the 15 but the other 8 were still coming. Starting to panic now she stood up and fired off her last clip relativly fast. Scoring only one hit this time the Terrans charged full force into the position. Jen droped back into the hole as they entered and held up her arms.

"Damn it!" Jack yelled. He looked around franticly untill his eyes came upon the hover dolly. He ran up to it and fired a shot into the tow hitch breaking it loose. A swift kick to the controls and the sled tiped to its side dumping the Vanu thruster components. Jack climbed onto the floating square reloaded his gauss and fired a shot into the momentum stabalizer. Now nothing was preventing the sled from doing anything except float. The laws of Physics took hold a few seconds later and the sled started to slide down the hill gaining speed. His implant enhanced vision zoomed in on the scene 50 yards away. Jen was standing facing the pit with a Cycler stuck in the back of her head. He could see the soldier screaming at her and Jen screaming and crying. The sled was bareling along the hill at about 60 mph when Jack shot the first round. It and three others crashed into the skull of one of the Terrans that had just noticed him. Another three shots took down another soldier. By the time Jack was halfway down the hill 5 of the 8 soldiers were dead. He looked back at the soldier holding the rifle to Jens head. He could see him start to pull the trigger. Jack had no shot, a branch was in the path of his head. The other two Terrans had noticed him by now and they opened fire. The dolly was shot out from under Jack and nosed into the hill with an explosion propelling him into the air. His eyes were still locked onto the rifle the trigger was still being pulled.

"Jennnnnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!"

Chapter 23: The Power Emerges

Jack looked around himself once again. Everything has slowed down. But this time it was diffrent. Not everything was slowed. He could move at normal speed yet was flying through the air at a slow speed. He looked behind him the dolly was still exploding and he could feel the heat and blast pushing him along. The whole squad was watching him from the top of the hill. The last two Terran guards stood eyes fixed on him as were their guns. Jack looked back at Jen who was still standing over the hole with the gun still in the back of her head. He could see the first traces of the bullet going off. A bright flash of light from the chambers cracks. He became enraged. There was nothing he could do now, he was too far away. Thoughts started to tear through his mind. "How could I let this happen? Why her? Is it all a dream? Its not happening." All of this flooded into his mind at the same time. Suddenly it all became fixed on one thought. "I cant let this happen. I WONT let this happen!" His mind raced back to the Vanu Labs. The feeling he got as they started to tear open his chest with the saw. The blank that was there was suddenly filled. The thing that hit him was that he felt the same as he did at the moment. Something was happening to him. He felt his viens corse with adreanalin and steroids. The implants all over his body suddenly tensed up. His vision became ten times crisper yet a crimson red. And then everything was black.

Jack Marslow had changed once again. For the second time he was insane. But this time he had a goal. The two Terrans shooting at him watched as the dolly exploded and the NC soldier was tossed into the air in their direction. They continued to watch as the reinforced armor that protected him exploded from his body, he threw his arms behind him, and he rapidly accelerated towards their squad commander. It was a blink of the eye, he was there and the commanders gun was pointing up into the air as a bullet emerged. They became filled with fear as Jack snapped both his arms, pulled out his knife, spun around, and sliced him through the torso. Their squad commander droped dead with a blood curdling scream. They started to draw their rifles on him but he was on the farthest one before they had moved an inch.

"The hell?" He quietly asked as a mag scatter went off into his chest blowing his inards out his back. Another milisecond later he was on the third Terran who still had not turned around to see his comrad die. Jack pulled back his arm and smashed it through the mans torso and used his other hand to snap his neck tossing him aside like a rag doll. The Air Captain turned his attention back to Jen who had turned to see what had saved her. She fell to her knees and Jack ran up to her. It only took a second for it to sink in for the Air Captain, he had done what was needed. He closed his eyes and collapsed to the ground. Jen signald to the squad which quickly rushed down the hill after picking up the Vanu Max thrusters. Bachmann was the first one there.

"What the fuck happened!?" He yelled.

"Get us some transport back to the base! QUICK." Jen yelled back. "He changed back again. He killed them all."

"Why didnt he kill you though? He certainly seemed to have enough time." Rat said as the Enforcer pulled up.

"I dont know."

The Galaxy arrived a few moments later and picked up the squad. An hour later they were back at base and once again Jack Marslow was laying half dead in a hospital bed.
