The Marines are a seperate entity from the Navy, but under the Navy. You are not in the navy if you are a marine.

And no, Onizuka-GTO, the Royal marines and USMC's are really quite different. The BRM are more like a kind of special force of the Navy, though not as secretive as the Special Boat Service. However, the USMC's are more like, as someone once put it, 'an elite amphibious army'. And you can only become a marine if you join the Navy, i believe, not the army, so they are not 'the best of the army', as far as i'm aware.

Please, correct me if i'm wrong.

EDIT: And oni again, that was U-571. And in real life, it was a British Sub. And no rock bands, though that would have meant it would have jsut kicked more ass.

Oh and so do you have to join the navy to be a BRM, like the USMC?
I suppose the Navy Seal is the equivilant to the SBS?
Whats the British equivilant of the Green Beret and Delta Force?

some info on the U.S. military...

The U.S. military has 4 separate and equal branches: air force, army, navy, and marines. However, there are only 3 bureaucratic military departments in the federal government: dept of the air force, dept of the army, and department of the navy. The navy and marines both fall under the same department. The navy transports marines, and controls the water. The marines are used to punch their way into an area if necessary and establish a safe area. The air force transports the army and then bases are set up. The air force dominates the air and bombs strategic targets, and the army is used to take ground and occupy.

As far as I've observed, Army makes for better "Nonconventional" forces like Green Berets, Delta, Rangers, but the Marines fight harder in straight combat.

Better than what? The Marines don't have anything to compare it to. The Marine Corps job is to march out and kill the enemy. The Army occupies and therefor needs the surgical capabilities of teams like delta, or to train the locals like the Green Berets.
