Writing papers

God I hate writing papers. I sit down and spend more time delaying and procrastinating then actually writing. It is not writers block. I just can�t get engaged. What can I do to get my damn head around the fact that I need to get this assignment done instead of do other less useful tasks.

Close all programs that you aren't useing for writing, get off the fourm while you write, sign off of AIM, TS, IRC and any other IM program.

I've found the only way for me to get anything done is to kill all Internet Explorer windows, shut down mIRC, put on some music, open up a word processing program... and... well... procrastinate until im going crazy from boredom, after which I get desparate and start writing my paper as something to do. Then I take a brief mIRC break once every few hours (gotta limit the break to a certain amount of time or I get sidetracked) and then its back to work.

It sucks but thats how I do it.

I don't need other windows do distract me. Pens, bottle caps, the keys on the keyboard, my hair.... they all are are more fun to play with then writing a paper. I can't get rid of all distractions.

i read a article just now, it was about how the brain in childrens brains IE 1-18 or so are set so that the kids dont look for long term goals to achive, but rather short term, in other words theyd rather work for a quick pay off than in the long run, thus procrastination, thank god, im justified now.

Well I am intentionaly exagerating a little bit for effect, but yeah, its bad.

And its not ADD. I can focus fine. Just not on this fucking paper.

well what would you do if someone locked you in a cage when not doing the school work you hate to do? If you can't concentrate on school work, your clone won't be able to either, it's your clone Duh!.

I think a good way to get yourself to do the work is to make a goal. something like tell your mom to only let you go on the computer when you have finished the work(yes i have to tell my parents to restrict me i can't do it my self i am a lazy bastard!)

Allow yourself to indulge in CPU games and other crap after writing a set amount. (In other words, take breaks)
