In my forays into the intricacies of British Literature, I've found out that the Brits have just under ninety thousand denominations of money. (This is before the Euro.)

What is a:

Quid?
Shilling?
Penny?
Tupenny? (2x Penny?)
Pound?
Pence?
Mark?

In fact, can you list them all in your mysterious moon language?

Quid is the same thing, like we say "bucks"
Shilling is a fraction of a penny that was in place before the current system came through
Penny is, well, a penny
Tuppenny? I have no fucking clue.
Pound is their equivalent of a dollar. It's a coin and it's lovely.
Pence = cents.
Mark, isn't that German?

I don't know what that is. Perhaps it's a tupence. Which is less than a pence. (Correct me if I'm wrong on the old currencies - Shillings and tupence)

EDIT: If you want to be more elaborate:

Modern slang used for �1.
Old coin that was used in the early 1900's
Penny is a pence coin. (1p, 2p, 5p, 20p, 50p)
Old coin.
Proper name for �1. A pound.
Same as Penny, only posher.
A mark is german. I think they were Deutsch Marks. I don't know the conversion.

Examples:

That'll be 2 quid please.

That'll be 50 pence.
50p

Look mumsy! I found a penny!
I have acquired a coin.

Also, a Mark is the german currency, although I'm sure it's not spelled mark

The only one that hasn't been answered is "mark", which even I don't know WTF it is...

Maybe like a score, but a different amount of cash.

yeah it's the deutche mark german currency.

but that matters not it's the Euro now. pronounced in germany like oi-ro.

I guess i learned something in german 2. Other thatn how to absolutly suck at something.

The only thing I can think of as far as foreign currency goes is Germany, whose former unit of currency was the Mark.

Its technically "Deutsche Mark". I've got a 10 Mark bill that my dad brought home from Germany that I use as a bookmark. I'll post pics if requested.

So much easier sense most of Europe has gone to the Euro

I remember driving from Ramstien down to Paris and having to stop to get Marks converted to Francs (to pay the tolls that are every 10 k or so.... then we went to Sitzerland and got our French Francs converted to Swiss Francs, Just a real Pain

Of course I hope that England and Switzerland don't change their currency... that'd suck for sopme reason I can't really explain.

The major flaw I see in the Euro, is that if one of the smaller (or larger) countries somehow falls into financial ruin, not only will their currency drop, but so will the rest of Europes. (That sounds so sketchy when written in brief)

I know what you mean.

I think that as cool and efficient as the Euros are, converting your national currency to them makes your country lose it's little niche, it's little bit of culture that distinguishes it from the other block of countries. I'll be sad if England converts. Having a one pound coin in your pocket is such a nice feeling, I can't explain it. It's like, 'What am I gonna do with THIS one?'. I feel like a little kid.

One thing that Europe does that I wish america did was Coinage

Man it's kewl be it a Euro, or a pound, or a franc to just have it in coins...

Whenever I'm in europe I normally get to an all coin money in my pocket in a few minutes... and it really is not all that Heavy.

I wish oh I wish that we had $1 $2 $5 $10 and $20 coins... that would rock!
