Yet more tests to my willpower. I've told myself I'm waiting till Christmas before I get this game. I refuse to buy another game until then (I got plenty of money just I'm cheap). Besides CoD takes up all my time for games.

Are you kidding me?

When I signed on to be the girlfriend of a gamer, there are some laws that come with that territory that I accepted. One of them, the cardinal rule of being the Girlfriend of a Gamer, is to provide the man nourishment and remind him to use the bathroom every few hours, but to relax and let him finish his game in peace.

Just ask Jenny, no intelligent woman would put herself between her man and the long-awaited release of HL2

So I go on with my work day, finish, and go to teach my two college classes. Class wasn't going that great (I wasn't in a good rhythm in my lecture and the class was a little wiped from exams) so I stopped the second class after an hour (instead of 3). I figure, oh I'll get the game and play tonight. I then think about it some more and realize, wife will be in bed early cause the baby was up a lot last night; the baby will be asleep by 8 and exhausted from being up all night; I have nothing to do tonight since WOW is ending.

Yeah, I'm gonna get HL2. Now I'm excited. So I go to Best Buy - no go, its out. Circuit City - out, EB - out. Now, I'm pissed - I want this game more than ever now. Just because I want it and can't get it. I go to GameStop. I must now have this game. I'm a man on a mission goddamn it. I keep thinking about the cool screenshots and I wanna blow some stuff up.

I go into Gamestop and they only have collector's edition - $80. I ask what I get and the guy sorta laughs and says, "a t-shirt". He then says you also get HL and CS with it. I never played those games before so I justify spending the money. I am smart enough however to pay cash so wife doesn't see the spending on the AMEX.

So - if it wasn't for you all, lol, I wouldn't have spent the money.

DLing now, better be good !!!
I got the Collectors Edition too, but by choice. I enjoy wearing my HL2 t-shirt while I play (yeah, lame, I know), the Prima book is interesting (but needs MORE from that "Half Life 2: Raising the Bar" book) and having it come with CS:S and HL:S is kinda cool. I'm not a bit CS fan but my little bro has been whoring it the past few days, and I might give it a shot. Played about 30 mins of HL:S, and I have to say I find it amusing.

After playing HL2 the gfx in HL:S look TERRIBLE, but the fact that it is on the HL2 (Source) engine makes for some... wierd experiences. For example take the sink of water in one of the bathrooms. Definately from HL2, looks beautiful. Meanwhile the sink itself is composed of like... 5 polygons. Sorta looks out-of-place and strange, but I never played through HL so at least I'll be able to do that some day, only after I've had at least a few days break from HL2 though, so the gfx aren't a COMPLETE turn-off.

Having it all on 1 DVD-ROM is also kinda nice... but since I didn't have a DVD-ROM in my comp when I bought the Collectors Edition (I hear the normal version is on CDs) I suddenly realized I couldn't play. I normally use my PS2 for running DVDs, never really had a need for one in my computer. So, 30 mins after I bought spent $86 on the game, I was spending $52 on a DVD-ROM so I could play it. Yeah, a bit hard on the wallet, but at least I'm able to play it and I guess it was about time I got a DVD-ROM.

All in all though, the game is totally awesome. I could go on a rant about how cool it is but just about everyone already has it and is fully aware of how incredible it is, so I'll just leave it at that. It owns.

Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go iron my HL2 t-shirt ( j/k )
