The ending kinda suprised me. My only problem is that a lot of the story was taken from HL1. But the game is still amazing.

I was hoping for them to wrap up the story in this one, but Valve had to be assholes and not reveal who the G-Man really is. But I must admit, Breen was the coolest guy in the game, he seemed so nice and just looking to help us.

I believe they are a further evolution of humans. In one area there is some grafitti which shows the evolution of man; Chimp, Man as we know now, Combine.

Possible Spoiler.....

The Combine Metro Cops (aka Civil Protection) are human volunteers. In the beginning, if you talk to the citizens at the food line, one of their lines is "I'm thinking of joining Civil Protection just to get a decent meal."

Possible that the Soldiers are also Human, dunno. Speculation is that they're all human (Metro Cops, Soldiers, etc.), but the "Real" combine is alien, like the Combine Advisor seen on Breen's screen in the beginning.

I think the Combine Metro Cops might be like "modified humans" like those wierds things you see walking around in the Citadel.

My theory is that Gordon is in a coma or something and is awakened everytime there's danger afoot. I dunno, I just hope they make some expansions that continue the story a little more.

It seems quite possible that the CP's are humans, as barney can fit in to one of the uniforms, but he may have an uber l33t one though.

yea the Combine are humanoid. they have human hosts, but their bodies are essentially integrated into the suit or somesuch.
