To be honest, and it may be wishful thinking, but I don't think the US will get involved in Israel, namely due to how badly the Iraq war has been received. Sure Bush may not care, but Congress certainly does, and I believe the amount of support he's lost now outweighs the amount he still has. Of course this is all barring another incident actually involving the US specifically.
Either way, I'm not going to buy into the doomsday crowd's beliefs. This situation won't start World War III. Call it optimistic thinking, but I think the Cold War effectively stifled any notions of another world war, since it would almost certainly have nuclear reprocussions. Mutual Assured Destruction anyone? |

I dont think there will be a WW3 soon. Israel is aggressive, which is the reason they are in a war every decade. Besides, any nation that is a world power would not start attacking another world power, because they know that nothing could be gained from it, as that would probably mean intervention from other nations.

Well, since everybody is allowed to say his true oppinion on this, mine as well give my own...
I don't think that this Middle East crap will cause a WWIII. I mean, if it weren't for the oil, the whole world wouldn't give more shit about a conflict there than a conflict in Africa or some other godforsaken place nobody but the locals really care. Then again, conflicts have been going on there for a long time now - and now there's a new one. Sure it's a bit bigger perhaps than what's been going on in the most recent years, but there's already been one war where Israel was facing all the so-called "bad boys" of the middle eastern bloc (the arabs). If any other country besides those in the Middle East is to be blamed for any mess going on there, it's the UK anyway - read your history and check on what really happened around WWI about there. The worst case scenario of that conflict is: Israel invades Lebanon, then goes on to Syria, and to get to Iran, has to march through Iraq. Iran in the mean time acquires nukes through whichever shady means and throws some around there - they don't like the israelis, they don't like the iraqis, and they definitely don't like the american troops stationed in Iraq either, so getting those killed in the process is almost like a "bonus sent from Allah!". Of course, Israel also brings its nukes into play, and since both sides are radicalized, the whole Middle East will be turned into a nuclear wasteland. Which will finally force the whole world to become less dependant on oil - see, not everything is bad. The only thing I can think of that can set off a WW3 is a conflict between the "west" and China. |

I don't feel another World War will come about for a long time. before the vietnam war, the citizen's never really saw what happened during war time. now with the technology's of today, we all see what exactly happens. people will not allow for a world war, in this day and age. I just don't see another World War happpening in a long time. Of course, I could be wrong, but I will stick to my word. |

Im guessing a world war will ensue very soon. The state of unrest amongst the world is just a sign everyone wants to blow up everyone else. Personally, over the past year I have gone from pro-war, to strictly anti-war(despite my radical skinhead conservatism). Not to say im a democrat or anything. War is necessary at times, but right now its just a slaughter fest. Ill give it 2 years tops before people get pissed off enough to launch some missiles at us.

Yea, but after many requests "Uhh, Israel, this is the UN, could you stop shelling us, kthxbai" if it was an accident, they should have stopped on the 1st request. From What I gathered on the attack on the UN:
-6 hours of shelling -Was clearly marked UN -radio requests to stop -laser guided missle hits it. I wouldnt exactly call that an accident... |

The more and more I think about it, global affairs really aren't much different from high school. Everyone involved loves to over-dramatize the situation to the point where a mole hill becomes a mountain. And in this case you can equate Israel to the nerdy kid who brings a gun to school. They finally snapped.

Ummm.....YES. During the Six day way they attacked a US Communication vessel....they of course "apologized" and stated that the vessel wasn't clearly marked...despite: It was showing US colors pretty bright. It was the middle of the day. Israeli sea vessels and aircraft has already checked the US vessel out. The ship was contacting Israel directly during the attack to cease firing. Most belive that they "accidental" attack occured so they could sieze the Golan Hieghts area. The US was watching the communications and would have told Israel to stand down from taking the Golan Hieghts....so...if the US doesnt' know what Israel is doing....well... As for WW3, depends. If another "accidental" attack occurs say in Syria...or if Israel pushed too far north, Lebanon has already stated they would use thier army to defend itself (long as thier invasion stays in Hezzbollah territory...no worries)....then Syria may get involved...then Iran. Remember Iran is surrounded by US forces both east and west of it....plus the pressure they have been getting diplomatically, they may be thinking....damned if we do...damned if we don't....lets go down with a bang. This could erupt in a big way and in a bad way. Particularly when as significant population of many other arab nations have a strong anti US sentiment. IF chaos ensues...then US troops may have to intervene...as Hezzbollah has already proven...air power and bombs wont do the job. Then the factor X that will cause WW3....N. Korea. They may see thier government coming to and end no matter what and decide also to go out with a bang. If the US is heavily and militarily involved in a massive Mid-East war, guess what they may do? Turn Seoul into a wasteland, nuke Japan, etc. Then the shit hits the fan. But thats if all the stupidity occurs and all the correct stupid intervals....never underestimate the power of stupid people in large numbers. |

To be honest... I doubt Kim Jung Il will do anything... he's like a seven year old doing a handstand saying "Look what I can do!". I am unimpressed by his demonstration of long range missiles...
In fact if they use a nuclear missile on anyone... they can kiss their asses goodbye because I'm 100% sure that anybody that's armed will act. They would be nuked by X number of people... it would be suicide.
