I'm trying to replace an ATI 9800XT. I'm looking for something cheap but as close as possible in ability if I can. Does anyone know anything out there that would be good?
I''ve seen this but It costs a bit: http://www.3gplaza.com/estore/contro...tails?id=64557 It's obviously better but I was hoping for something cheap possibly. I can't or won't upgrade to the new stuff yet. I don't want to do a new system yet for money reasons. Any good cards out there that you know of? I'm still on the P4C800E board. AGP. Still need to upgrade that processor but man they don't want to go down in price. The cheapest EE prescott is still like 250-500 bucks. I thought they would go down. lol I think they are going back up actually. I missed my chance for one cheaper a while back I think. |

I found a nice looking card. Does anyone know anything about directron.com? Any word of caution? Anything good? I think I'm looking at the 8x agp card. Anyone know off hand if this will work on a P4C800E asus board? I'm trying to think what I have to look at for compatibility. And is there anything bad about zogis or are they just fine for this type of thing? Or does anyone know if I could or should get this cheaper? Edit: oops this isn't an agp version. The 7600GS is fine, it's still a decent budget card.
I still know people that are getting 6600GT's. Oh, and as for your motherboard/cpu problem. Hell AMD is cheap right now, I have a AthlonX2 3800+ that I bought just a few months ago, and now it's only like $60? There are a few options. Just depends on what you want it for, and your budget. It's a 478 so I didn't think an amd could fit on it. The card was PCI-e only or I would have bought it. the agp ones are all more expensive. I"m looking for something cheap on the agp.
Though I guess it wouldn't be that hard to find an amd motherboard that had sata raid, would it? Which amds would be eqaul to the EE 3.4 prescott stuff? I've forgotten. My big problem is my video card though. Because it is getting pretty bad and is annoying the hell out of me. I would love to buy that card I listed but I need to find stuff to get a whole new system to go with it. I would want to have the ability to use my current hard drives and it would need to all fit in a 500W psu's limits. But I don't think I can afford to spend several hundred right now. How would this be as a replacement for the 9800xt.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129096 It's a dx10 AGP card for 69 bucks. But it's ony 64 bit. In what ways would that compare vs the 9800xt? I was reading this thread and they were talking about how the architecture affects different games and how to tell how it will work on in different situations. http://www.rage3d.com/board/showthread.php?t=33891884 I was also looking on new egg and was looking at these. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129092 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129094 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814129097 I just remembered someone owes me 240 bucks. So I"m counting that into a budget for upgrade or new pc!8) I may go witha braind new system then!!! yay!!!!! So I'm thinking of checking out a 775 board also I'm compareing prices now(I should be able to get the equivilant card cheaper anyhow right?). I keep seeing new egg proccessor that overclock well so I figure I may have mroe options. Are the Allendales that good at overclocking. It would be interesting to have to OC just to get any program to run since it's under the usual 2.0 minimum spec. lol Unless they won't stop me from running it because of that. I haven't been here in months and Aital is still looking for PC parts?
If you want a newer cheaper build that should be good for the next couple of years, here's one I just whipped up....again for you. Gigabyte P35 mobo for $100 Intel Core2Duo E4300 for $122 Corsair XMS 2x1Gb DDR2800 for $105 - $40 MiR = $65 eVGA GeForce 8500GT for $95 - $15 MiR = $80 Thermaltake 500W Power Supply for $60 - $25 MiR = $35 Total for this system is $480. Take out the Mail in Rebates, and this system will run you just over $400. The Allendales have been known to get up around 3.0Ghz on air. I wouldn't recommend using the stock heatsink/fan that comes with it. Get either a Ninja or a Tuniq Tower. They run around $40, so you basically pay for it with your Mail in Rebates. Now you'll have a bunch of questions, so I'll be sure to answer them.

I missed something about power supplies on pci-e boards. Are the 24 pin that same as the atx connector for 478s.
Yea I haven't bougthen anything yet. Not sure what I'm doing with it atm. lol The card keeps getting back to normal after it runs for a while. So, I can still use it for now.( I still may not buy this for a while if I figure out what to get though.) I'm just posting more or less but I need to know or could use the info when I do end up doing it so I won't have to get caught up. (unless I do just buy one. I'm technically upgrading to a new system for a vid card issue which is a little overboard.) I'm still figuring out what to keep in the system or what I can keep. I haven't been working on it much as you can see. I forget if, what I think are, 1.5Gb/s SATA would be compatible on 3.0 SATA connections or not. And like I just said about the PSU. Then I was going to look for another extremely overly compatible mobo. 8) I thought it would help so I could Jump farther later on processor If I need to. Not that I'm thinking realistically whether I"m going to end up even keeping the board later. But basically I have, 500gigs worth of two HDDs, a case, two dvd drives and all my current case stuff, floppy drive, modems and external stuff,(which have alot of USB ports so I'm sure I can scruntch them in.) I just need Mobo(with wide enough range to buy cheap stuff), proccessor, new vid card, ram. And PSU if the one from my 478 wouldn't be compatible. I think they are only 20 pin. So I"m confused. I was thinking they carried over the normal ATX when they did PCI-ex for some reason. Though I remember they were thinking about BXU or something and there was possibly something about new power usage needs. I wasn't sure though. I sound like I'm trying to get instant info. I"m not. I'm just stating it to say it more or lees and splurging my state of mind on it. Sorry. I'm really not even sure what I"m getting right now as I think i said. though I was freaked because I thought my card might die on me in a week and leave me with no video. Which I wasn't sure what I wanted to spend t replace it. I just keep seeing these darn cards for so much cheaper for PCI-e and it's driving me nuts. If I really want to do a new system I need to get it below the cost of a video card replacement. I just haven't figured out yet which proccessors would be a good enough replacement for what i have. So It's not a bid deal right now. It's more helpful just to get info from people. And more fun. It's more like a discusion to me than a question. Especilaly since I don't have alot of money. hehe Oh, now I want to buy stuff. lol. BTW, what made you pic those specific parts? Last edited by Ait'al; 2007-09-19 at 11:42 PM. |
