I'd say he's the go to man for new music. He did a great job of creating a sound that was distinctive but not intrusive. I'd forgotten the Planetside music until it first got brought up here, but I still recognized that title track instantly.

I never turned the music off, ever. Put the volume down to have it in the background and have everything else louder, but i always had it running. It was fantastic, and Don should really do the music for PS2.

If you head over to his site, you can download all the remastered PS1 music as MP3s. My current playlist is: all Don's stuff (ps1 and 2) Terminator 1 music (theme, tunnel chase, and love scene, written by Brad Fiedel if you want to search for it) Tron Legacy sound track by Daft Punk (VS music bitches!) Some Skrillex music (syndicate, first of the year, kill everybody, scary monsters and nice sprites, more VS music) Star Wars' "Imperial March" "Night on Bald Mountain", the version used in Phantasia. All Epic Music with basically no vocals ('cept the occasional clip in the Skrillex stuff). I'm a programmer, and vocals can distract parts of the brain I need for Important Work (like writing posts here... sheesh) Last edited by NapalmEnima; 2011-10-06 at 12:40 PM. Somehow the music in PS never got annoying, even after listening to the same songs for what must be hundreds of hours by now. But if it's making a comeback for PS2 I'd like to see more diversity. For example, the only time I turn the music off is when I'm playing cloaking games in an enemy base, because there I need to be able to hear everything from doors opening to people switching weapons and activating implants. What's missing is a 'cloaking theme' that's much quieter and methodical.
Or how about an armor column theme that starts playing whenever you're near 2 other friendly tanks? Things like that. Even if they're just short 1 minute tracks, it really helps give you cues about what's going on. Plus it makes things more fun |

Of all the things I've forgetten the last few years, I can still distinctly remember first logging into Planetside. The music was so epic, it really set the mood for what I had in store. I can still see myself sitting there glancing through the instruction book in my lap, trying to decide which empire I should fight and die for.
Sadly, I eventually turned off the music because it literally gave me an extra 1-2 fps, and I was doing everything I could to get that game to run the best I could with what I had. Now, I just listen to my own music when I play, but Ferrone's tune still sticks with me. If they don't bring him back, the composer they get to replace him has some large shoes to fill. |

Yeah i enjoyed the music for a long while in planetside before i ended up disabling it, and even then id turn it on agian some times. Id like to hear something fresh and new though nothing based off the current planetside theme.

I wouldn't mind seeing Don do the music again, but I don't view it as being completely necessary to bring him back. There are a lot of talented composers out there. If SOE has a different vision for the music of PS2, then let them do what they think fits the game best. Remember this is more of a reimagining than a sequel.

Thread Subject and Poll are two different questions, so I didn't vote in the poll.
The music is important. Don did a great job with PS1, the music fit perfectly with the feel of the game. If he came back to do PS2, that would be great, but I can't imagine the same feeling and tone as PS1.
