A sniper is effective against:
*Infantry

Things effective against a sniper:
*Aircraft
*Ground Vehicles
*Cloakers
*Other Snipers
*No Ammo Terms Around
*No healing

Above else:
*Snipers kill most of targets in 2 bullets
*Snipers have no camoflage or whatever, so he's to be spotted after just 1 shot
*Playing as a sniper will get you killed a lot and yet you'll still get a complaint everytime you kill somebody

So please Dreamcast. If you don't know what it is to be a sniper, try sniping yourself instead of crying about it.

On a side note though, dear SOE, I think you just lost one of your potential PS2 players.
You make a bunch of good points, butttt sniper's who have weaknesses in "no healing" and "no ammo terminals around" are complete noob snipers that haven't packed their (should be mossy - everything I talk about is PS1 mode) vehicle's cargo bay with more ammo, and don't have the med cert. Other snipers can be avoided by simple tactics of - get kills until you're spotted then gtfo instantly and find a new spot to snipe at, no questions asked... just leave, seriously best tactic ever.

Also not true on the camo from PS1 - one of my old tricks was to hotdrop onto a tree and hide in the leaves, I swear I could rack up 10-20 kills before I was caught or ran out of ammo.

And playing a sniper I got killed a lot less then whenever I rarely chose to zerg it out with the mass of the Vanu forces... just saying

Snipers are already invisible. When you're a mile away shooting someone, your rifle won't counter snipe the guy effectively. All the cloaking does is allow the guy to get into position. I figured equipping the weapon and/or firing it will deactivate the cloak for a set period of time, which means you can fire once, pack up and move invisibly to another location, significantly dropping your rate of fire (which is already pretty slow for a sniper); OR, you can keep firing at will, in which case you have no cloaking at all and practically 0 armor (probably no shield, either).

Relax with the knee-jerk reactions. You're shaking up my internets.

Higby already said that cloaking between shots was too overpowered in playtesting, so if snipers to get any form of cloak, it certainly won't be complete invisibility. Anything else is pure speculation at this point, not that there's anything wrong with that.

My interpretation of what he told us it that sniper and cloaker will be two of the available loadout options for the infiltrator class. To give a dedicated sniper class any significant level of cloaking would make them too difficult to hunt given that their preferred engagement range is so far, and that the field in this game is so large.

I would like to cloak through a battlefield and get into position, then start firing, and if I'm found run from the incoming fire, get my cloak up after a timer, and move to another location. That'd be sweet.
