1) Locking a continent was not the only sense of victory. There were victories with every tower and every base that was taken. In fact, locking a continent usually sucked because more often than not, the losing empire would ditch the continent well before it is locked, so the "winners" are left with a 9-1 advantage as they mop up the last base or 2. This makes the last 15-30 mins a boring chore instead of exciting gameplay. Locking a continent is vastly overrated. 2) The servers are likely to be regional, just like the original Planetside. This means, no matter what, there will be down time. And during that downtime, ghost hacking will happen. It always happened with the original Planetside, even with its sancs and continent locks, so I'm not sure what fantasy world you lived in. Actually, I think the new territory capture system may likely be an improvement against ghost hacking. TL;DR - The devs are adding victories and likely decreasing ghosting. Basically improving on the original. Don't fear change. |

Behind the lines ghost hacks will be difficult to pull off because bases behind the lines will take much longer to hack, giving people ample time to respond. The front lines will continue to shift as per normal. Playing at night doesn't mean you're an inferior creature relegated to meaningless actions so as not to piss off the glorious dayshift master race.

Dude, this is what you get when they developing for PC EXCLUSIVE, they dont have to worry about shitty 6 year old console hardware to scale down lightning or textures or baking shit. On 2011 PC hardware this is how it suppose to look a game like on these screens. The last pc exclusive good looking game was Crysis 1 back in 2007. Forgelight is the next generation in graphics. but i still dont understand why is PS2 free to play?

Hard to gauge from some of those pics but the flight ceiling looks a bit higher?
Loving the lens flare, more lens flare is always good! I would agree with Basti - having a sanc where once can launch an empire wide raid from where no other empires even have knowledge that you are doing it was a beautiful thing (except for global pop being missing). A lot of my standout memories of PS1 is when we got these huge raids together, and I just can't see that happening with these little continent safe zones. Speaking of population counters, will those be in the game again so you can see where the global population is or are they just going to do balance of forces on one cont or what? |

At launch, with the limited number of continents available it makes complete sense to give each empire a starting point from which they cannot be driven, a sanctuary-like area on the home-base turf for each empire. As our access to Auraxis grows and more continents are released, having a staging/meeting area that can't be completely conquered will allow for persistent outfit Barracks and large coordinated attacks as well as a hard reset point for your squad. The new Sanctuary shouldn't be linked to specific points on a limited number of continents and it shouldn't be the default place that people log in at, it should be the place where an empire can have its last stand before pushing back.
For those of us that were dedicated/lucky enough to achieve it, Sanc-locking one or both enemy empires was a crowning achievement in Planetside. It has been mentioned that it will be virtually impossible to achieve this in Planetside 2 but I think this could be easily balanced through basic environmental parameters. Sanctuaries or faction motherships should have a built-in defense infrastructure that allow for enemy factions to attack but also give a massive advantage to the home-team so that if one empire is getting ganged up on at least they can mow down more enemies and still have fun. We are going to try to break any limitations placed on the system including what can be captured, might as well set it up to be an epic battle for the ages! |

Some really astonishing pics lately. This shit just keeps getting better. I can't wait to see what this level of graphics looks like in some of the different environments on other continents, because this continent is looking great.
The dawn/dusk canyon shot is pretty cool and makes for really dramatic shots. It's nice to be able to see how lights on things like vehicles will make such a difference. I can't wait to see a pitch black night shot, with the only illumination coming from artificial sources. I also look forward to seeing what they have done with the night sky. I hope the moons move around dynamically based on an internal time of month system. |
