so I wonder how fast the scythe will be able to come to a stop. with the whole new movements it would be cool to drop stop and let an enemy fly by then take off and case it.

f that, spin around and shoot them while flying in reverse at top speed, then go into some mega powerslide.

i like the amount of diversity! every empire is going to have it´s very own feeling and playstyle now! ps1 had too many common pool and too few empire specific vehicles.

at first i was not sure about making the former common pool airvehicles all empire specific, but with all that customization possible now, it seems just right! and it is great that the player will experience an almost new game if he changes from one empire to the others.

especially the different flight mechanics will make dogfights very interesting and different all the time! this time it will really make a difference, what empire you are fighting against and you have to adapt tactics to the enemy. regarding airfight, empires were just colors in ps1. it didn´t matter who was coming.
but i am sure balancing this game will be a pain in the arse. if the devs get the balancing as good as they got the visuals, the game will drain all the players from all the other mmo´s out there.

That's why having most of the PS1 community on CBT is a good thing.

am i getting it right, that the scythe will be capable of manoevers like the human fighter ships in the new battlestar galactica series? like building up speed, shutting down the big thrusters and then spin around to shoot followers or quickly thrust into another direction and make the pilots of the other empires shout out "where the fuck did he go?" because they have to fly a curve while the scythe can simply turn around in flight and use afterburners to do a surprise momentum change?

Before the weeks up, I say we all spam the devs for a video of the Scythe in action. ^.^

We don't know yet what flight model any of the fighters will follow, but unless the Reaver/Mosquito will have their thrusters mostly locked in the aft position like the old versions I don't see any reason why they shouldn't be able to turn 180 on a dime and drift "backwards". I think helicopters can easily pull that off, and futurecopters with pivot thrusters should only have better maneuverability. Of course there are also gameplay and balance considerations, so in the end it's anyone's guess and we can only do what we always do - wait

I think the vs look awesome , but i have a question , i like to have a mossie and reaver and i like having two aircraft , so that if i get nailed by an AA max unit etc , i can respawn at base and then pull out the 2nd , and considering in ps2 the reaver/mossie and scythe now belong to each empire does that mean we're stuck with one aircraft per person rather than two ?

There is also the Liberator which is apparently more like a gunship than a bomber now, but yes, only one fighter per empire.

We don't know how the timers will work this time around, though

Re: PC Gamer Vanu Screenshots

Oops, doublepost. Sorry
Anyway, I thought about how the Scythe might handle, and this is what I came up with:

We know it floats with magnetic fields. But it also has a big-ass thruster in the back. And the first pic we saw it on had a trail of fire.

So my theory: it uses the magnetic fields to essentially cancel gravity, but that is not it's propulsion, the big rocket in the back is. This means that at any given time you could shut down your thruster and let inertia carry you floating the way you were headed while turning whichever way. Allowing you to fire at pursuers while still fleeing, look around without slowing down or to drift over a base wall never braking stride while keeping it under fire during the entire pass

It also means that rookie pilots who forget to engage their parking brake will often find that as a prank their Scythe was given a push and is now floating several hundred meters off the ground

What do you guys think?

edit
then again on second thought, hovercraft using thrust-vectoring should be able to do all that to some degree (depending on the range it can turn the thrusters)

I think realistic flight physis were promised, how do you make an aircraft make a 180 turn midair with only a thruster in the back? Given, VTOL landing would probably need an explanation as well. Question being, can you turn around like a helicopter can without going to an angle around your own axel.

In Magriders case this is sort of a given. However, it ALSO moves only with it's floaty mechanics. The thrust for Scythe comes from the thruster and after take off, there's no ground for the floaty mechanic to touch. If Scythe was to be able to just turn around in the air like a Magrider can in the ground, then it should also pretty much be able to float in the air without any momentum too, and I doubt this will be given, as I think it was one of the biggest things about changing the flight physics to not have a Reaver sit up 20m off the base door killing anyone who peeks out.

my .02 about the way the Scythe looks....I would only make one SMALL adjustment. Make the back in a "little" shorter than it is. This would accentuate the front blades of the aircraft and give it more of a small/nimble feel.

IMO of course.

I figured it has smaller thrusters somewhere on the hull that are only enough to spin it around.
However, you make a good point about hoverspamming.
