Been in several days now. Of all my buds I've been the least excited for this, it seemed too similar to wow, but I'll admit I am hooked. It has WoW similarities, a few bugs, and a few archaic mechanics that prove this is BioWare's first MMO.

But I love melting faces with lightning, and I'm glad there is no Auto attack.

The server logon queues are nuts! Has been after about 2 days since they started early access... 30 minutes up to 5 hour wait times just to get logged into a server...

Yeah I'd say over 75% of the servers had a 30min+ que BEFORE the game even launched. If they don't allow server transfers plus open up new ones I predict a very unhappy launch.

Usually the que didn't start till after 5-6pm, now it's on before noon, I can only imagine how bad it will be later tonight lol

Double edged sword. MMO with a small pop is lame so you can't put out too many servers but queue times are a bit bad. They just about doubled the number of availible servers yesterday. Of course the wes coast server I was talked into starting my toons on is the one that has a 1hr queue 24 hours a day.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Rebublic

Yeah, well, a lot of Early Game Access folks created a guild before launch via the pre-order periods. This allowed EA to spread the guilds across all of the servers in order to balance the populations between them. So, my question is, if they knew how many subs were going to be on each server (based on guild sizes) then how come they can't control it? Also, why didn't they just put a cap on the server instead of an indefinite queue line? Also, many folks are asking why they can't offer free character/guild transfers. I'd imagine that isn't being given because there's no way to control how many will try to uproot to another server.

It's easy to complain about all this stuff when we don't understand it. There is a MASSIVE influx of demand for this game there is absolutely no foolproof way to manage it. They have been raising server max caps for a couple of days now and will continue to do so according to their forums.

I have faith that Bioware will get thing settled - they have already said far more about their plans and been more responsive about how it is working than Blizzard ever was in the beginning

Re: Star Wars: The Old Rebublic

Honestly though, they should've just put a player cap limit on servers. Don't allow the queues to get past 20 minutes or so. At that point they should stop allowing new people to join the queue. Forcing new players to start on another server. They've already said they are working on a character transfer system. Not sure why that wasn't already in place... But if they'd just cap the queues and give the option for character transfers then everything should work itself out eventually. Also, they should probably do some planned guild transfers to lower pop servers ASAP to help alleviate the issue more quickly.

Here's the thread about the server queus issue and what they are doing about it: Warning on high population servers

This is just classic launch marketing. Companies have been doing this for years and it is totally deliberate. They know the demand is going to be huge, so they limit the release. So you get people standing in line, all clamoring to be in the lucky few which drives up demand even more.

In this case, I'm sure they knew exactly what they were doing. So now the storyline of the game is about how incredibly long the lines are because everybody who is anybody is playing this game, so if you arn't playing then you better start playing. They could have easily spread out the people across the servers better, but then you'd have no queues and that doesn't help the hype machine.

I really doubt that - the technology required to make this machine work is just insane. I don't think they are intentionally creating queues they are trying to balance things out and artificially setting server populations - you cant open the flood gates and you cant close servers so this is the next best thing.

Re: Star Wars: The Old Rebublic

I must admit, on the server that my guild was deployed on, by Bioware, the 2nd day of public launch the queues sit said Heavy - Full throughout the day but the queues seemed to be going faster compared to the day before. Looks as though they are controlling it... What chaps me about the whole thing is why not just tell the player base that's what you are doing. They left everyone in the dark on the details and that's why the whole rage stuff happened... Just be honest about what you are doing and people will understand....

To be honest, Bioware deployed many guilds in a pre-launch guild program. They knew how many people were assigned to each server via that program also calculating other people through EGA to monitor and control the flow. But they didn't control the flow. They allowed anyone to join any server regardless of queue #s... I just thought that was kind of silly....

The game is just bad, it's like they took WoW and missed what made that game so great (back when I played in 04/05) and tried to make up for it with Cutscenes. The problem is the only interesting story in the game is the class based stuff and that is such a small part of the game, most of it is boring standard MMO quests. The cutscenes aren't even good, they aren't kinetic, it's just two people standing still talking to each other most the time.

- Crafting is crap and such an afterthought
- Space combat is on rails, feels akward and sucks
- The planets feels so empty like a Single Player game most the time and it's all instanced up to shit.
- There is a real lack of ambient sound in the game, most the npcs are silent and there isn't even like noise from waterfalls or rivers flowing.
- The isn't any world PVP, I got to level 43 without seeing anyone because of how it is all designed.
- The planet that is dedicated to world PVP is basically AV from WoW and still has all the same exploits that did.
- All there is to do extra is run Group dungeons, I wont call them Raids because they're pathetic in size and PVP battlegrounds.

The funny thing is because so much of the game is shared between classes, it isn't even fun to roll an ALT. The game is so linear you'll go to all the same planets in the exact same order. Also because the Dungeons are all voice overed it becomes a drag running them again and again like they're designed for. All people do is skip it because they've heard it a million times before.

Such a bad game, I wouldn't even class it as a true MMO, it is more like Guild Wars. The good thing is my friends feel the same way and aren't playing any more either, you can tell the game will tank within a few months but they probably made all their money back on CEs alone. Can't believe I wasted £130 on the CE....

I agree with most of the points above... I can't speak for the open PvP stuff other then I've simply not seen any yet. I simply haven't gotten high enough level yet to see it I think. Is the game really going to die out so fast? Don't all MMOs that have just started have issues such as these at first? Until they come out with some expansions that address these issues should we really judge it yet?
