Ah,yes, running people down with vehicles...how splatty
I don't recall the devs saying anything about the run-people-over-with-your-vehicle-like-a-total-newb thing except that you take damage when you hit them.

personally i dont mind the run over stuff. First they are usualy good targets for your weapons and also if your wise you can use terrain to your advantage.
In tribes2 i was running people over with my shrike. Simple reason. You see a big dot over a hill looking around.... its kinda like waving a sign saying "run me over please"..... If you dont wanna get run over, try to stay near trees for example, try to use canyons, find terrain objects to cover you. Its like any other situation out there. example, there is a l33t sniper out there trying to shoot you. Well you make your way to him using cover to prevent him to shoot you, so you can get close enough and make his sniper rifle useless and kill him. Those that can still run you over (with planes) in these situations then i dont call that noob anymore but skilled and i respect that. Altho ground ramming is another story, kinda much more easyer so my point here doesnt apply to ground stuff, but as for air stuff i think its fair enough to give them full credit in anything, you just had to be careful, like in any other situation. Feel free to comment. .02$ |

If I'm on foot, out in the open, vehicles are going to kick my butt. Period. Fender, shell, beam, whatever. I'm toast. Ramming is just another weapon. Is it "n00b" to blow the snot out of some infantry with a 150mm cannon? Any idiot can spray enough 20mm slugs in your general direction to kill you... is that "n00b". This reminds me of when someone bitches at you for using a cheesy weapon every time you kill them, no matter which weapon you choose. "Shock-ball combo's are cheesy! Chaingun spray-n-pray takes no skillz! Rocket launchers are for wussies! I JUST SUCK!" I'm not saying you're one of those people, but this does have that kind of 'smell' to it. I'd be happy to hear some reasoning behind the whole "ram == noob" thing... All I've got to go on right now is a blanket statement you've made. In T2, not being rammed was a skill, just as ramming was. It was SO satisfying to trick a beowulf into smashing into a cliff, or roll over in a ravine, or watch some shrike smack into a tree. It was equally satisfying to tease some light into trying to hop into the gunner seat. He hops, I back up, jet forward, SPLAT. Smearing a heavy that was forced to come down to ground level because all his missles hit the tree you're hiding behind was FUN. Just as fun as watching that beowulf blow sky high when you and a couple other defenders cram a dozen missiles up it's corn hole. |

If hit deer with your car it'll for sure fukup your car. I think the same should be true here and in T2. Rewarding these **** with BEP only encourages it. Thus, taking away from the rest of the game. Impacting will no doubt be in the game. But rewards for such cowardice? Bah! quit looking for a replacement for skills.

I've got an appropriate weapon for the situation we're in, you don't. You loose. If we're indoors, and you're in a MAX, and I'm in standard with a supressor, same deal. I fail to see the difference. In the unreals and quakes, things are a pretty even playing field. It's a contest of skill. THIS IS NOT. Combined arms, tactics, organization. 1337 5|(i115 certianly help, but they're only a single component of a larger system. Hypothetical situation that'll probably happen sooner or later: Some cloaker steps out of a drop pod to see the barrel of a Mag-rider pointed at his spleen. Is it cowardice for the gunner to pull the trigger instead of getting out and taking the guy down one on one? NO. It'd be stupid NOT TOO. And it would be stupid not to use every weapon available to you to kill the enemy. It's WAR for cryin' out loud. Fender = weapon, so kill people with it. I still have yet to see an argument about WHY ramming is bad. |

I think the ability to run people over is fine if it damages the car a bit. And do you guys seriously think that making it so you get no BEPs is going to discourage people from running others over? Do you think just because he isnt gonna get BEPs hes gonna stop? I don't think that will help too much. Also, if you have a rocket launcher and a guy comes to run you over.... hes toast.

I have to agree with the people who think it is legit to run people over. You shouldn't be walking around in an open area all alone. You are practically asking to be killed, unless you have a decimator on your back, then your just setting up a trap for an unsuspecting buggy driver. So, be smart and drive around so you don't have to worry about be run over. Travel in groups, of if you're alone, have a rocket launcher handy. Just be prepared, because this IS war, and all is fair.

As far as impact damage goes, I think we can draw a fair parallel between modern infantry armor, and a modern light vehicle.
Modern infantry: Kevlar helmet & vest Modern light vehicle: Hummer. Hummer: Dented fender. Guy in kevlar: Street pizza. And that's not even getting into APCs and tanks, that I would think wouldn't be affected at all. Ramming = good for drivers, bad for pedestrians. I would expect a buggy not to fair too well if they repeatedly ram MAXes, but other than that, no worries. But if I'm in a MAX, and a buggies bearing down on me, you can bet I'll try to kill the driver. And if I'm in an anti-inf MAX, I think I'll have better than even odds of pulling it off. |

I read all these posts about how,
"If you're in the middle of nowhere by yourself without a vehicle or a rocket launcher, and I come in in a harasser, YOU'RE DEAD, thats your fault!" Well, i was thinking, what if you go with a samll squad of soldiers, say somewhere around 4 poeple on a "covert" mission in a single dropship, whihc you are piloting, but you run into a reaver whihc easily places a rocket in the dropship's face, makign it a flaming ball of fire(hahah flaming ball of fire). So you eject right before the missle hits and you are alone in the middle of the map with agile/standard armor with a rifle and pistol. What do you do then when a jeep comes up and wacks you? |

A jeep whacking you wouldn't even be an issue man. You think the reaver that nailed you in the first place is just gonna let you run away free? MUWAHAHAH -LT
