EVILPIG I really like where you are going with this idea. I disagree on a few minor details but I love what you are trying to say as a general concept. Creating more options for constructing a forward base and spreading out the different aspects and functionality over multiple vehicles is a great idea. As has been discussed I agree this adds more depth. You can still simply and quickly set up just a Galaxy but without bringing in the rest of the assets your base will perform a simpler role. This means people need to take the time to coordinate and plan if they want a base which is all inclusive. Details about where the guns go, where the equipment terminal is, etc. to me are better left for Beta but the overall concept of this idea I support fully in any way it is manifested.
Here is another thing I loved which I read.

Bunkers. Electric Wire Fencing or Energy Beam Fence. (Wouldn't block LoS, but nasty for infantry and infiltrators) Possibly walls, but not so sure about walls. As well as the usual turrets, mines, etc.

I don't really like the electric fence idea too much based on how I picture it but I'm open to ideas on how it could work. I can see how someone would be opposed to strict walls but as long as the wall is the height where someone crouching can fire over the top from behind hard cover I can't see how it would be anything but awesome and would compliment a forward base amazingly. The only problem I can see is this. Is the wall destructible? and if so how does that function? Because there is no good way I can see for an invulnerable wall unless it maybe has a timer? But idk how I feel about that. |

I can see your point. Keeping out infiltrators or Light Assault, but making it destructible to explosives and AV weapons could be interesting. So a lone light soldier could not get through but an army or a specialized force could take it out.
Let's put it simply. I hope player created walls/cover in some form is implemented into the game. I like some of these ideas. I think it complements the concept of a forward base very well. Maybe even make walls only able to be placed within a certain distance of a deployed vehicle so that you cant just spam the battlefield with walls. |

I love the Idea. If SOE would do something like this the Engineer would be my all time favorite class. To put it simply it would make for some very interesting fights as people tried to over run the player made bases. Very cool!!!

Oh man, this just made me think of a cool Station Store item. The engineer could place some sort of flagpole with your outfit logo on it! Could sell various styles, old school cloth or holographic. That way, when your outfit sets up a supply base you can let everyone know who to thank!

I was thinking. OK, vehicles when deployed can act as spawn points. What makes that a "base"? If that's all that mattered then do you call an AMS a "base"?
And so I was thinking, maybe there could be a way that you could actually create something worthy of being called "a base". Instead of talking about Galaxies or Sunderers, I'm just going to say "base building vehicles" since we don't know the specifics of how this would work. So - I was thinking - what if you deployed 5 base-building vehicles? 4 at each corner of a square/rectangle/diamond shape, and the 5th placed in the center causes the whole thing to link up and activate as a base. What are some extra benefits of having a fully linked and activated base? How about a shield? Or small perimeter walls(only high enough to stop infantry) link from vehicle to vehicle? Or small defense turrets appear on top of each vehicle that formed the base? As for HOW you link them up, it would be like this: You know how when you are looking at a Galaxy and it shows you those colored circles on the ground where you can stand to get into one of the gun turrets? It would be like that - when the first Base Building Vehicle deploys, the game will project an outline showing the next 4 vehicles where to deploy in order to link up. And the next question is, how long would these bases last once deployed? Should there be a limit to how many an empire can have? Can they be captured/hacked? If not, wouldn't that cause an empire to just create them all over the place as alternate spawn points and fortresses? And would that be OK? The reason decay/maximum number matters is, as we know, generally we can pull as many vehicles of a type as we want, there's nothing to stop people from setting these bases up every 50 meters if there's no limit. Perhaps a limit of 1 per hex? And, aesthetically, maybe once a base is created, the ground inside it becomes metallic instead of grass/rock etc(even water if they can be floating).
