I can't wait to see ragdoll physics, but if a seriously large weapon kills somebody, like a rocket or a tank projectile, I hope the body is blown to smithereens. Doesn't have to be gorey, just no longer there.
Choosing whether or not to do this could be calculated simply by whether said weapon kills in one hit. Rifle fire: Ragdoll Chaingun fire: Ragdoll C4: BOOM, no body.

In a similar vein:
You get exploded or take more than x amount of damage and you die instantly - no revive possible. You get killed with between y and x excess damage and you are unconscious - can be revived You get killed with under y damage and you retain conciousness - can fire pistols or crawl and be revived. |

For massive blast effects, I wouldn't mind seeing bodies blown to nanites, but for smaller effects like grenades it will definitely be fun to see ragdoll like in Fallout 3:
As for OSing a vpad though, the resulting ragdoll would be beautiful :P |

No to ragdoll. Sure it looks good, but you should think what problems it brings to teamplay. How you can ress someone on your team when he just flew half a mile away. Ragdoll could be used for better death animation, but only if it dont move you more than 5 meters away from where you died.

I would suggest limiting the no body to vehicular weapons and C4. An interesting idea but it could be abused against outnumbered groups that rely on sticking together for reviving each other. Sure the smaller groups could equip a grenade launcher but the larger ones can equip two or more. It would be rewarding the special ed too much.

Now it will be like BF3 /COD / any modern fps I saw so many franshise who try to get new mechanics getting bash by old fans of the series planetside wil keep the essence but the overall gameplay will be 100 % different ! |
