not really, the thread is about how much it sucks to have Halo 2 be delayed, and then people started showing up and making fun of Halo. Which is their right. Of course, it's TECHNICALLY my right to PLEDGE ALLEGENCE TO SATAN. -LT

Just mentioning Halo you doomed this thread to this debate. PS is a FPS, so of course people who like Halo will migrate here.
Although i think arguing about things like graphics of games pointless ... im 100% sure i had this computer before the Xbox was released and it beats the Xbox specs. I also fail to see how 'dising' Halos graphics hurts you in any way. Last edited by Arthell; 2003-03-08 at 04:30 PM. |

>>>>>>Although i think arguing about things like graphics of games pointless ... im 100% sure i had this computer before the Xbox was released and it beats the Xbox specs.
It's not the specs, it's how it works. Your computer has to deal with a bulky OS as well as ineffient ways for communicating with its various parts and peices. xbox has no such issue and if indeed you got your computer before the release of the xbox than I'd be willing to bet the xbox could beat it from a benchmarking standpoint. Even if it couldn't, however, that doesn't change the fact that xbox games until very VERY recently have looked better than PC games in general because coding for the xbox you can use the system to it's maximum potential, whereas on the computer you must program for the lowest common denominator. >>>I also fail to see how 'dising' Halos graphics hurts you in any way. I'm about an open a person as they come. I own all three consoles and I have a really beefy gaming PC as well. I spend on average almost $300 on game software alone in a month. So if someone likes or doesn't like a game, that's fine, to each his own. But there are some things that aren't refuteable or arguable. Such things include: - The PS2 has the most games available of all the new consoles - The Gamecube isn't TOTALLY worthless - The Xbox is the most powerful of all three consoles by FAR. - Halo has fantastic graphics. You can argue about the framerate, because if you're used to PC games 30 FPS can seem a bit slow, though it doesn't bother me, but as far as sheer graphical quality, it simply cannot be denied that Halo is very close to the top of the heap. If you honestly disagree with this, then you've been playing it on an awful TV, with an RF switch as your video input. Or something. Come over and I'll show you some of Halo's hotness. If you don't like the game, that's fine, but don't get up in the graphics, because they're good, and you're blatantly wrong if you say otherwise. -LT

Huh, halo is my favorite game. The story is AWESOME, especially if you've read the book 'The Fall of REach'' which is a prequel to the game, it's about MC (John) growing up and becomign a spartan, and the war with the covenant.
The only thing I did not like was that it was on xbox, I don't like using the joysticks for fps (and espcially despise rts games on consoles) as well as there was no possibility to mod. http://www.gearboxsoftware.com is where halo pc is being developed, and it WILL come out, I've talked to them. It will most likely be editable, have a few extras (most likely being able to use ALL weapons in the game, including the swords and such) and the multiplayer SHOULD support 64, with new maps, ALL vehicles (banshee dogfights anyone?) as well as a crapload of other things. Also, it may support Gmax, easy editing, ah yes. I personally rate halo as the best fps ever, I HATE halflife with a passion, don't know why, just do. |

I'm halfway through the fall of reach right now actually, I bought it this morning.
It's interesting as a quick read, not literature by any means, especially considering what i'm used to reading, and it tries (often painfully) to mimic Ender's Game, which is simply the end all be all for this type of novel, but it's a nice addendum to a great game storyline. If you're into the halo storyline be sure to check out the story page at halo.bungie.org -LT

Hey, dont mean to interrupt your Halo banter....but this is a planetside forum. Go to Xbox.com and continue there, were here to discuss Planetside.
Halo is fun, but even hardest mode is easy. "The only people who dont like Halo, own a Gamecube, and are .....jealous of our greatness!"

I agree, this wasn't meant to be a topic all about halo. I posted it on the wrong board.
If I had the ability to move it I would, unfortunately I can't. Hopefully a moderator will. However it doesn't need to be taken to Xbox.com, because all I would get there is "w000tzorzzzzz iz gunna oznWNZ j00r a$$ in teh h0la!!!!!!! it'z teh bestestsests games of the ever!!!" etc. It's nice to get an opinion that's DIFFERENT then the one you have every once in a while, it sparks discussion -LT

Regardless, if you were to remake NS on the Halo engine, I still wouldn't play it. I don't see the point. The Halo engine has what exactly? Particle effects? They put those in NS with the Half-Life Engine. 32 Bit Textures? They did the same with the Half-Life Engine. Natural Selection literally rewrote some aspects of the Half-Life engine. Halo comes out 4 years after Half-Life? It's not an improvement that I believe 4 years should be noted of. Which this whole thread is based on opinions, so of course their going to vary. There are more than just Engine, AI, and other technical reasons that I don't like Halo. The level design was unbelievably lame. It looked as if they could have copy/pasted the same room up to 10 times per map. Shooting Aliens in games don't appeal to me. Unless those aliens are controlled by real people, it's like shooting deer in the woods. Removing flying vehicles from Multiplayer. Lack of guns and equipment variations. Lack of types of enemies (a total of 5? different enemies...) Impossibility of future expansion. For those who say things like "People who don't like Halo are jealous because they got a Gamecube" or whatever. I laugh. Like I said, I could trade consoles with my cousin anytime I please. But, there is no way I'd give up Eternal Darkness, Zelda, Mario (all of them), Bloody Roar, Smash Bros, and Starfox for his Halo. Call me crazy but that trade looks way too much in his favor. |

as far as your problems with Halo: -With regards to levels you are partially right. Most of the levels were awesome, however there were a number of levels that were very redundant (and then sometime you had to go back through the redundant levels the opposite way ). However there were many gorgeous and well designed levels. The number of these outnumbered the redundant ones. -I saw nothing wrong with shooting the aliens. I thought the AI was impressive. There were stupid alien types that would play stupid on any level of play. However the tougher enemies played very smart, especially when you played on the harder modes. How is shooting ai aliens like shooting deer, but shooting AI humans is not like shooting deer? -With regards to the multiplayer, I thought the multiplayer was very lacking. I never had a chance to play 16 player and don't I think most halo owners did either. The multiplayer levels were way too big for 2-4 players. Halo could have been a better multiplayer game but it wasn't. -I thought the weapons were very well done. All of the weapons were very useful in some respect. There were no garbage weapon. I found that I used very different weapons when I played it in legendary mode than I did when I played it in normal mode. Different weapons were more effective against different enemies so you had to think about which weapons you wanted to carry. I loved the way you could only carry 2 weapons at a time and that when a battery powered weapon's power ran out, you needed a new one. None of the weapons were cheesey. The grenades were awesome and very easy to use. You can't tell me you didn't like the plasma grenades and how they stuck to enemies (and how they would run around in a panic when stuck to one) -You are missing about half of the enemies if you onle count 5. Off the top of my head I count 4 types of the covenant enemy type, plus 5 of the Flood type enemies., and there were the drones. I don't think 10 differnt enemies that you regularly run into is a bad number. -No room for future expansions??? What is HALO 2 then? I'll call you crazy then. Although I have not played the new Zelda, I have played all of the other Game Cube games that you listed. I would not trade HALO for a single on of them. Halo is not going to win multiplayer awards. However Halo is by far the best and most fun single player FPS that has come out IMO.

I'd much rather shoot humans and human forms. Which Half-Life supplied after the initial Resonance Cascade enemies. I don't find killing little things that blurt random sounds interesting.
Elite Those gargantuan things that you can one hit pistol whip. Small flood that you just ignore anyway. The standing Flood. The crawling flood thing that explodes. --Recolored enemies (ie. Red Elite, Blue Elite) are virtually the same thing.

2 the covenant that carried the shields, 3 the bigger covenant that had pesonal shields that were very simlar to the Masterchiefs and some of them had cloaking 4 the great big covenant that had their weapon attached to their arm. (you can one hit pistol whip anything that you sneak up on) 5 the drones 6 the really tiny flood 7 the flood that exploded and produce more tiny floof 8 the smaller flood enemies 9/10 The were atleast 2 completely different types of the human size flood
