As long as its implemented where when you spot an enemy and he is in direct line of sight, a red marker appears and stays on the enemy as long as he is in your line of sight. If the enemy withdraws behind cover, the marker should disappear. However, the enemy should still be shown on the mini map for a set period of time.

Yeah, I'm dubious about 3d spotting too. In a game with as much scale as PS2, players will have an easy enough time finding things to shoot. Depends on how many infils there are, though. That'd be the only thing I could think of that would necessitate spotting.

I'd think the arrow should remain where the enemy was last seen for a short time. This could encourage people to go looking and bite the bait.

I don't really see how the implant from PS1 is different from the arrow that we see in PS2. Large obnoxious red names with health bars.

If you want to fight for realism and immersion you shouldn't be able to detect how healthy your opponent is other then how many time you've shot him, or even his name but I doubt that would go away. But the HUD from your visor could supply the position arrow.

I like how spotting worked in BF2. IIRC, it allowed you to mark a part of the map for a short period, and didn't track anything. It allowed you to show your teammates where the enemy was without giving them super-human real-time tracking of the whole other team.

The thing is, there is a good sized faction of people against 3D spotting in all games. BF3 has a lot of people against it too. Put all the 3D spotting opponents from all the games together and we've got a lot of folks there.

In BC2, you could see 3D spots through buildings, mountains, etc. BF3, they do disappear behind solid matter, but it turned out not to be enough. They still allow you to see people that are so far away they couldn't otherwise be seen, and even as respects people that are close enough to be seen but not close enough to be serious threats(like 100+ meters), people still treat them as if they were priority one threats, even if a flag that needs capping is a lot closer.

Join me(not just you, all of you who think animations are essential) in fighting the good fight against 3D spotting and other free help from the game, and I'll join you in your fight. Compromise is good, isn't it? But, be careful. If your next response is "we have to make the game accessible to new players", the exact same argument could be made for not having animations.
I am all for getting rid of 3D spotting, its almost as bad as having a kill cam.

Yeah its really not that bad. I only pay one class, its mastered and I have 150k exp more then I know what to do with. I payed for vip though. Like 30$ back then.

I'd learn to look past the pay to win thing lol. PS2 will be like that. F2P doesn't usually mean free lol.

Let me guess. If it doesn't have exit animations it just isn't Planetside right?

Nothing is ever free. PS2 offers a sub though thankfully.

So somewhere farther back in the topic (I'm not going to go back and look for it after reading this hole thing) they were talking about animations and numbers to see whether the masses really want it, or something like that.

Well how about someone just record a few vehicle animations for a video. Then just show the same recordings, but cut it so that the actual animations aren't shown. You could have the guy run up to the vehicle, and enter it so that you have enough time to play around with.

Then just post that video on various forums and such, and have a poll of would you rather have animations or not. Given time and views, I'm sure the numbers will tell what the general consensus is.
