Higby recently again touched on the types of Outfits that are a possibility. Like standard Outfits that are for many different roles and act like a Private Army.
On the other hand there are vehicle and class based Outfits. These are going to create groups like in the military. Like the 101st Airborne. I have always been interest in being a Galaxy pilot and had interest in create a Galaxy only Outfit for which ever server I land on. Now the question is, would you give up being in a huge Outfit and getting the standard Outfit cert bonuses just to get specific role Outfit bonuses found nowhere else in the game? Similarly I think it would be helpful to have a system that allows specific Outfits to be easily communicated to. If a standard Outfit leader is putting together an attack, but he is short on Mosquitoes. He should be able to contact the TR 233rd Mossy Squadron and ask for some reinforcements. It would be up to them to either send over people or not. This would help Galaxy Outfits too. Because lets face it 15 Galaxy pilots can't go into war alone. |

They are interesting ideas and at least many aircraft based outfits were around in the original Planetside. However I'm sorta aiming more at an outfit capable of sorta doing it all. Sometimes perhaps air ops, sometimes armor ops, sometimes infantry, sometimes all at the same time
So I'm sorta wondering if the system will only cater to the specialized outfits well or if there will really be something worthy for outfits who dont want to pigeonhole themselves.

This is an awesome idea. The only thing they need to do to make sure this idea isn't broken is to ensure that the benefits to generalist do-it-all outfits are significant enough that it doesn't seem like you are missing out on great bonuses you can get from specializing in one area.

I think that the outfit specialization idea is good and should be pursued.
I definitely would like to run or participate in a specialized outfit at some point. The problem is that there are complimentary yet separate playstyles that do not coincide with each other, like air support for armour or ground support for infantry. I think what they should do is do some sort of thing, call it a Nanite Systems Squad Specialization License, that confers a common pool outfit benefit to a designated squad within the outfit. Licenses can be unlocked and upgraded based on what ever mechanism is already being contemplated (maybe outfit points, I don't know.) Multiple licenses can be upgraded or you can focus on one. This also ties into the reality that some (most) outfits will be able to field more than one squad and so they will want to have multiple licenses on the go. You form the squad under one of these licenses but a license is not required to form a squad. This way you can accommodate combined arms outfits as well as theme nights.
