So I was thinking the other day about capturing bases. To me, and some of you I'm guessing, domination mode to capture a base is so sloppy and messy. People will just be sprinting all over the damn facility from one node to another. So I came up with something different. Now this may have been already suggested, and if it was, I completely support it, but if it wasn't, well here we go.
So the base capture would be divided into 3 stages. In the First Stage, there will be 3 nodes on the outside but right next to the base walls and the attackers must capture and hold them simultaneously in order to move on to the second stage. The Second Stage will have 4-5 nodes on the inside of the base walls, and again, the attacker must capture the points simultaneously and hold them until they get to the third stage. In the Third Stage a control point in the dead center of the map will activate, however it will cap much much slower than the rest. Oh and I like the NETWAR mode in Blacklight: Retribution, where if no one is standing by the node, it will slowly go back to being neutral, so that you always have to have someone on that point in order to hold it. And that my suggestion of how a base should be captured. Again, if this was already suggested, I support it full on. Last edited by IHateMMOs; 2012-06-02 at 12:49 AM. |

Yeah, but that's still just running all over the base. Remember when TB in his Night Ops spawned as a VS and there was a random NC engineer just standing inside the spawn room by a jump pad? That's what I mean, everyone is all over the place.

But there's still no sense of territory. An enemy team will be again running all over the base. And in with organization, just randomly. But maybe we'll just have to see what it's like at E3. I still consider 3 stages a little better, since you have a sense place. You know that the enemy took the outside of you base, but you still have a chance to defend the inside of you base.

Capturing certain bases in STAGES. Objectives necessary to complete in order to fully take over a base. A variety of capture types would enhance the game. |

I was thinking, i wonder what would happen if i started a thread to discuss the different 'game modes' we could have, seeing right now we have domination, so maybe they could add in capture the flag like what was in PS1, or escort, where a convoy has to be driven from point A to point B, and all the enemy is told is the path, like the intercept missions in Red Faction Guerilla. But then people would probably not take it seriously, so i don't think i will do that, but different versions of domination would add more variety and spice up game play.
And the option the original poster came up with is like an Assault Game type, capture points that allows you to move up to another set of points, like in Time Splitters 2 and Time Splitters: Future Perfect Last edited by Toppopia; 2012-06-02 at 02:20 AM. |

Well, PS1 had only 2 modes, though one was just two stages. One is take the command console, the other was take the command console and then carry the core to a nearby base.
I kinda wish each base had a different required approach to how to capture it. I'd actually like some base type to have the classic command console capture style, and a core runner style. Simple? Of course. Fun? Definitely were. I kinda miss them already. |

I think that MAG had really good game modes, Planetside 2 could definitely make it's own variations of those for certain bases. It makes the attacks feel more progressive rather than just zerging all over the place. They turned the continental zerging into a frontline system, why not do the same for facilities? I really hope they make it like that, or some other variation of that, because plain domination is sloppy and kind of boring.

But the capture mechanic is the most important aspect of the gameplay since it's the only way you're going to earn resources. I get that the scale, the map, the customization is spot on, but why can't the most important part of the gameplay be as organized as the continental frontline system itself? That's the thing, people are going to get bored of doing the same sloppy domination over and over again, hell even Planetside had 2 ways of capturing a base and people got so creative with it, I can't see how anyone is going to get creative with simple just domination.

One reason something like BF3 doesn't get boring for me. Is because sometimes no 2 games are the same. And its fun playing with friends or making new friends, for people playing lone wolf, capturing a base over and over again will probably get boring, but if you are with friends or an outfit, you can challenge your selves and go for capturing a tower or base with 10-20 of you and have a little fun seeing how long you can hold out before you get over run. But maybe adding other objectives would be cool. Can't think of many that arn't just capture the flag, or escort. But these could be added in near release time. Just to spice up the game play.

Than imagine how fun it is when you're with a larger group of friends/outfit and you all trying to push through the walls as the enemy holds you back, like the GDC when they were inside of the base. That's what I'm talking about, progression, imagine how fun and not to mention dramatic that would be.
