Thinking out loud, I would probably buy all or most the real camo patterns as well as some faction costumes, but if they were only in faction colors, I would only buy a few of my favorite patterns.
The uses would be more limited for me because I'm not actually trying to blend in now, but just to look cool if they went this route of only faction tinted camo. For SOE, I wonder why they would remove real camo that will sell like hot cakes, and only supply faction specific colors that will sell somewhat mediocre, when they can sell all versions. The potential loss of sales would be exponential as each skin is studied and real camo is removed.

I also take exception to the logic behind this. Why even bother with camouflage? I mean, the default armor colours are BRIGHT. They're ostentatious and easily seen. That's the look of Planetside, right there. So why try to anally fist the visuals of the game with this realistic camouflage patterns crap? Oh, of course, the answer is $$. I look forward to buying EverQuest armor skins for $9.99. |

thats why they have work so hard on the silhouette now every faction have a very distinctive silhouette they are not just reconisable by the color sheme
it was part of the plan to actually sell camo with neutral tone etc.. so now people will have to reconise their ennemies more based on the silhouette than based on the collor sheme |

They need to make two sets for each type of stupid camo/cheetah skin: One with team colours, one with ugly colours. That way, they could put in a "use team colours" option in the graphics menu which lets people who want all NC to be blue/yellow and all TR to be red/black etc be their team's colours, rather than whatever nasty colours the PS2 art people farted out over the weekend.

Basically, I'm not understanding what you are wanting. You say animal prints look stupid and ugly. Then you say our empire colors are bright. Anyone who doesn't agree with you is a goofball, fanboy, or brain damaged. You want to turn them off and return to default skins, but then you also realize this is their BIG revenue stream... Dude, calm down and take a deep breath... All these are subjective and opinions, and I'm ok by that. After spouting out all this skin hatred, do you think you will buy a few skins? If not, why would SOE even consider any of your opinions about them?

It's fine to complain the camos aren't well done, but to complain that you don't want camo just because you have an aversion to modern war games? Sorry, but that's what it sounds like... that you want everyone to be forced to look "futuristic" by being colorful and looking like Unreal Tournament characters. That's your opinion. Some of us want camo and not just because "girls love a guy in uniform", but because they should be a useful tool in a war. edit: Nothing against walking around in flashy faction colors but there should be an option, so that stealth teams can wear useful camo. You sound bitter, are you the type that wants a F2P game to be a charity? Again, that's what it looks like. Eww... In the end, you seem to just be trolling... very constructive of you, buddy. At first i was taken aback by the zebra camo, but i'm not so bothered now.
Some things need improving however. The camo looks low res on tanks and large aircraft, like it's just slapped on. I suggest instead of the devs just UVing and overlaying the texture, they make them almost to the quality of the default vehicle skins. The paint could be partially faded, with dust and scratches on edges corners etc. Make it look rough like it has been painted onto the tank. I really like the look of the reaver and vanguards with full desert camo. |
