Hi I'm new to the forums and new to Planetside, so be gentle I was wondering if Planetside could have a social district/area where there is no fighting and players from other factions could interact with each other.
I have been thinking how it could fit into the story and it could be an area that has peace talks in them, the peace talks would never come to anything because the war never ends but this is how a social district could fit into the game. It could be an area to show off with your outfit, or show off your character, I first saw this in an MMO called APB but it had other functions in that game. I was wondering if any PS vets could tell me if this would fit into the story of planetside and if they think it is worth doing or not? Thanks in advance |

In PS1 the Warpgates were neutral. I sometimes saw players of different empires exchanging their weapons and stuff... they couldn't acutally chat with one another except the voice macros.
Certainly in PS2 it will be sort of the same thing. |

You can mingle with other TR soldiers who are off duty in our foothold. |

NO!
was the first response I had because it was just too funny Actually, I wonder if opposing factions are going to be able to enter your foothold. I have seen the aforementioned ceasefire between friends and exchanges and such, but I don't know if we'll need an actual place dedicated for it. While it would be amusing (watching a TR woman walking into the store with a NC man for instance), they are already doing a whole butt-ton of social media and networking that we may never even realize we're "out of character", haha. Oh! Welcome to the club |

Another problem that could be solved by creating space station sanctuaries for each of the factions.
Separate map with no weapons allowed, only the social/training/strategy related stuff. Add a launch bay for 10 min cool-down drop pods (must land in open area) and you've partially solved the foothold situation as well. |

There was already a thread made yesterday about this:

Much like the poster in that thread I do not support such separate areas. It would be akin to silly outfit housing ideas that the RPG crowd wants. Last edited by Sirisian; 2012-06-13 at 03:29 PM. |

Alright, imo this thread's idea is contained into your's scope but i suppose this discussion deserves a separate topic, since yours was more open ended.
So, back to the discussion at hand then... Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-13 at 04:32 PM. |

I don't really like the idea of an area that encourages people to loiter in game while locking the continent for others (when the population is cap'd).
In most MMOs where social aspects such as this are part of the game's core gameplay (RPGs) people already cry oceans when they have to wait in line... Imagine how happy the FPS crowd is going to be when they realize they're 254th in line to a continent while some people are in there just sitting in a sanctuary, swapping belt buckles and asking their friends which one makes them look fat. It's the same problem as player housing, but even more annoying because it doesn't just distracts players from the game's main aspect, it also impacts other's ability to play directly by preventing them from joining. Which is why in the other thread i suggested this:
But only if you ignore the fact that it's not about a minigame that has nothing to do with PS. It's a place where you can do what you do in the game servers but without any kind of persistence (so people wouldn't OCD all over it). That appeals to the people who like loitering with their friends and to the ones asking for player housing. It also doesn't make them too busy to jump back into the server if their outfit needs them, all they have to do is get back in line (same situation as offline members that may be equally needed). More importantly though, it opens up the continents to people who actually want to play. Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-13 at 06:25 PM. |
