Hello guys,
Long time FPS'er and more recently Planetside 2 fan. I'm looking forward to playing the game and I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself. I've been playing first-person shooters since Rainbow Six and PC games since Pools of Radiance. I missed the first Planetside, though, probably because after 3 years of EQ1, I was a bit burnt out and needed a break. But, eventually i got back into it and ended up playing WOW for 4 years. Since then, it's been pretty much FPS's; AA, CS, BF etc. The thing that attracted me to this game was the team play and the importance of coordination on a divisional/brigade level. As many posters have mentioned, BF3 is not what the originals were and I just grew tired of the casual game play and the absurd amount of code hacking going on in the game now. It's just staggering. You would think after 3 renditions they would get it nailed down. Which brings me to my next point. While I'm not under the illusion that there wont be any boters or code hacking at all in the game, my hope is that it won't be so prevalent that the game become's unplayable. You cant just kick the boter and reset the map. The damage a hacker does will be much more disruptive and balance altering in this game. Therefore, anticheat systems should be the highest priority for SOE. Now on to my initial impressions of the game. I think it's the best game to come out since Rainbow Six. But, only time will tell if it really has the ability to capture the imagination of a generation like the Clancy games did. The native 64bit client, level of detail, power to scale and the lighting engine are all, in my humble opinion, and should be considered industry standard much like the Clancy's games and Everquest 1 were at the beginning of the online era. Simply put, I think Planetside 2 and Forgelight is a revolution in technology and gaming and could, and most probably will be the game that ushers in the next advancement in the evolution of online gaming.
