It's not too much to separate a weaker variant of it with less firepower for more mobility. And of course it can't fly like an LA, who would be insane enough to think that they need more than that? They would be much weaker propulsion systems (so they get less lift per second), and each varries as I put them. Toss in the fact that MAXes are a lot "softer" in PS2 than PS1 with headshots, and it's not even as bad as in PS1 with jumpjet MAXes (and those guys could jump HIGH) |

I am gonna miss my max jumpjets. Was always fun, often effective. One of my favorite minor uses was to jump up on railings of bridges to not become roadkill to vehicles barrelling down the bridge. Another was submarine crossing of rivers, jumping up midway to refresh breath.

I would like to see this in game... I also speculate that devs could be going in this direction already since all the MAX have strange wing/propeller/thruster looking thingies on their backs... it should be more restricted than LA jetpack however.

I love the idea iteration from the OP (well thought out, well presented), but am against the idea of Max's having JJ's at all.
Max = armour and Weapon output (Damage Tank)...if you add super manuverability to them as well, they are too over powered.. |

If you consider how much weight the Ammo (assumed on the back) and Weapon on one arm could take, and the amount of thrust that could be produced by replacing the Ammo compartment, I don't think it would be an unreasonable sacrifice to give up a weapon hand for jump jets. I would consider swapping a weapon for a jump jets side grade.
Also consider you would remove the flexibility of your max offense to AI, AV or AA only if you sacrifice the weapon for JJs, as well as the amount of firepower you would dish out, it would seem balanced to me in order to have some of the defensive and vertical flexibility to manuver in a 3rd dimension. Also it could help to get out of some tight situations, and considering that the VS Max would already take damage when hitting the ground too hard, I believe it could easily be made balanced with the other classes. |
