I'm more of the RPG crowd actually. However i don't want PS2 to have something that makes people want to log in just to sit around blocking others from playing the game... because i'd most likely do it.
Which is why i suggested an instanced area. It doesn't have to be done with private servers, a city with a pop cap of it's own would serve that purpose. Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-20 at 06:08 AM. |

Hoping everything is going to be alright doesn't make it so. Eventually servers will be at capacity, likely in a daily basis (prime time).
If the lines get big, people won't want to hear "go to another server", they will want to play where their main character is. There will be a lot of hot heads whining about it. That's how MMOs roll. Last edited by Dagron; 2012-06-20 at 06:15 AM. |

Never got the idea behind fishing a whole weekend long.
* Start up PS2 * Get into the battle * KILL, KILL, KILL, CAPTURE, CAPTURE, CAPTURE, KILL, KILL, DEFEND, DEFEND * Quit PS2 Sure they can make such lobbies for guys who want to just chill. As long as this doesn't consume any development time for the real game i don't mind. If it takes away resources from core development, i'm all against it. |

I think people should wait till the games even out before suggesting features like this, i mean more people are going to want new toys to play than this sort of stuff. If you're going to do this sort of stuff have a server dedicated to mini games, etc Seems like it would just cause a lot of unnecessary headaches for coders if you ask me. Though if there was a mini game...i'd like a planetside texas holdem variant...so I can win something off other players while playing my favourite gambling game. |

There needs to be a base on some continent in a corner dubbed "Sanctuary" that is encased in a warp field where guns cannot fire. All factions can spawn in at different corners of the base and there could be a combat arena (several) where guns work. And voip/local chat works cross empire.
Could be cool to see, but could hurt the game by having to many people there rather than in the fight. Personally I'm for the old PS way of dueling though. Find a base or tower in the middle of nowhere and invite friends/rivals and shoot any friendly/enemy that comes to grief. Works just as well usually. |

Now, people can create character blogs and other outside things that are effected by their experiences in game, but this in-game social area hangout place idea is good. I don't think all three factions can hangout here, probably not good since they are always killing each other. Anyways, FPS and other competitive games are not lacking role playing, whether intentional or not. |

Been a while since I've looked at this thread. I think someone else summed up what I was going to say:
I mostly just think of it as a game. Also anyone suggesting making a separate area from the core game obviously didn't understand what I was proposing. I already commented on why keeping it all in the core game would be preferred. (Other than the obvious reason that most of these ideas don't require a separate world). |

Im still hoping they add bases, or airships for outfits. Maybe have general areas like that for people without outfits also and have things in it that would make sense such as the virtual training areas etc. That way you can test out new cert builds, sit and chill with some friends if you wanted or practice combat drills outside of the actual combat area. I dont think this would pull people away from the main combat, it would achieve both goals,(not pulling people out of the game, and keeping it in the overall theme of the game, an fps not an rpg) make the game more immersive since thered be these other areas outside the main game and still make them useful at the same time.
It actually makes a lot of sense having these training areas because without them the only way to learn is in the heat of battle with a couple thousand players lining you up in their sites. I support the idea just think it would need to be something kept in theme with the game. But hell i love to fish too, so either way haha. They could even have computer consoles that had lore about the PS universe and the various factions. Maybe hide bits of lore all over the world and have a sort of meta game where you collect them. |

It's good that the hardcore players just want a Planetfield 3* but even in that you're gonna get players on different sides getting together to cock around with pistols only, knife fights, player towers(CS) etc - and that really does distract from the game play. People will always make the system work for them
Surely it's better to have instanced areas where this can happen without getting in the way. The argument that it detracts from the actual fight...? Yes, yes it does, but less than ppl doing it in-game where pop. caps are an issue. Like it or not people like to be sociable - Even geeks */troll - But funny how you sound that way when you drop your guard to rage at new ideas.... |

Nothing wrong with that. I socialize in-game, too.
But I do it by actually talking/chatting with other players - I don't need my character to stand in some night bar or in front of a fishing hut by some lake for it. And I'd hate precious development time wasted on something like that. I could go for some simple no-fire zone (à la warpgates) accessible to all empires tho, to take a look at someone else's character without having to fear a third guy comes along and blows you up. |

Instanced so it doesn't affect gameplay/pop. caps but you can still be online and available when half watching the last 10minutes of Barefoot Contessa... APB has a mixed social district for buying/selling/designing stuff, sorting out your track listings or getting the DJ to play certain tracks |
