I read a topic on discussion regarding the current/possible melee attack options, but I think that the best one is to be able to equip your weapon with a bayonet instead of equiping a normal knife ( would use the same slot though).
It makes more sense this way too. From a combat perspective it is the most logical way to "knife" somebody since you don't put your weapon down, and it would be very interesting since knifing people becomes boring after a while. Stabbing them with your main weapon though, completely different story! So, what do you guys think? |

Geeze, this is the SECOND bayonet idea thread created after someone went through my knife poll.
It's been posted before, so try the search option next time. Yours is presented better though. http://www.planetside-universe.com/s...ad.php?t=43045 |

His was a bit different. He opted to have a bayonet sidegrade, whereas I wanted to make it like an equipable weapon ( same as how some people wanted the knife).
And yeah, I think that if you use the bayonet it should take 1 stab to the head or 2 stabs in the chest or 3 stabs anywhere else to kill somebody at full hp ( of course not the heavies or max units). |

I feel like the bayonet would be best implemented as filling the same slot as an underbarrel GL or shotgun. Then instead of switching to a GL and firing that, you are attaching/folding out your bayonet and stabbing with it. Bayonets would attack faster and do more damage than the standard knife, but you would have to give up another attachment, and be delayed by the equip time.

I think a bayonet would take the place of any underslung attachment. It would change how quickly you could swing your rifle and how quickly you could look down the iron sights. On the plus side I think it should always be available for melee and it should be able to kill up to HA with a headshot. Bayonets would look sick on the battlefield.

A bayonett would give a battle rifle a very nice option. This is something I could see going to the assault classes. I think this would work very nicely with light assaults too. A light assault would be able to flank and get close enough to make a bayonet worth while. Swooping into the enemy on your jetpack..you gun one down..you run the second guy through..jet away to safety..
