Are there any disadvantages to using AP bullets instead of normal bullets? It seems that just using AP bullets will be better.

The gun katas. Through analysis of thousands of recorded gunfights, the Cleric has determined that the geometric distribution of antagonists in any gun battle is a statistically predictable element. The gun kata treats the gun as a total weapon, each fluid position representing a maximum kill zone, inflicting maximum damage on the maximum number of opponents while keeping the defender clear of the statistically traditional trajectories of return fire. By the rote mastery of this art, your firing efficiency will rise by no less than 120%. The difference of a 63% increase to lethal proficiency makes the master of the gun katas an adversary not to be taken lightly. |

AP do less damage against infantry as they pass through them.

As for AP ammo, you use it against more heavily armored targets like Reinforced or MAX armor, and I guess you'd use it against vehicles too, although I personally wouldn't waste my time and ammunition. |

Wasn't it said somewhere that AP bullets did damage directly to armor and that regular bullets did damage directly to health?
Reg bullets: Doing directly to health but only at a percentage do to the armor. AP bullets: Doing directly to Armor with the side effect of taking out health. |

Armor Piercing bullets do less damage to health than normal bullets, but armor has less impact on how much damage the bullets do. So you'd want to use AP rounds against a heavily armored target, as you'd be able to kill them faster than if you used normal bullets -- which do "regular" damage, and are absorbed by armor fairly well.
So if you want to take out a MAX, break out the AP rounds and he'll be dead before his armor is half gone. Otherwise you're going to be there, shredding his armor with normal rounds, before you finally start doing some decent damage to him directly. |

That sounds like a very nice advantage to be able to change to armor-piercing with the flip of a switch. That could potentially make an average Vanu squad better vs. MAX's and Vehicles.
I'm not saying that would be unbalanced cause I have no idea what the advantages/disadvantages truly are, but it's interesting regardless. |
