Eyeklops are you going to do one? If so I won't bother. You can use Amazon to avoid sales tax for now anyway.

I am pulling back this build until I get more time to research proper compatibility for ram vs motherboard and a few other things. Looks like it might have to be an AMD CPU to stay under $1000 and still get a good GPU.

I think you forgot an OS. (optional build/parts for comparison!)
AMD: CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819106010 amd FX-6200 3.8ghz(4.1Ghz Turbo) 6core 160-30(promo before 8/13/12) $140 This needs CPU to mobo check for compatiblity. I've seen the chart but don't remember. Mobo: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128521 GB-970A-D3 90-10(rebate) $80 *NO SLI support* Ram1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226217 8GB 1600 $45 Ram2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226302 8GB 1866 $60 Intel: CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115077 i3 2120 $125 MOBO1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813157265 84.99 I think this one is better. Also has SLI. Ram1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820226217 8GB 1600 $45 HDD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822148221 HDD 500GB $74 SSD: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227811 $50 dollar 60gig SSD 8P still cheaper overall. 50$ Vid1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814121480 560 TI fermi 448 cores 320bit 1280MB. $269.99 - $235(after rebate!) CD/DVD Drive: Anything for under 20 bucks and under! Lots of choices. I would look for a cheap blue ray with burning just in case. You never know! They might just have a weird sale for the same 20 bucks. OS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16832116986 Windows 7 home premium 64 bit SP1 - OEM $99.99 Me hatem windows expenditures!!! GRRR!!! Evil the windows be!! Dirty and full of mens blood! OS2: Any linux distro for free. But you may not get windows games working on it! So only if you don't care! One day we will have linux windows game support! >< Or common game releases that can run on Linux natively. Monitor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16824236175 ASUS 23" 1920x1080 2ms etc etc. This is what I could fit in with the remaining money. Case1: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811147073 $24.99 Might need some mounting screws. Or complain in the newegg thing like the other guy and maybe they will send them to you! 8p Case2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811208042 34.99 - 10(rebate) 24.99 Can mount more Fans. but only 2 internal drives. So if you get the two drives I mention you cannot add more in the normal space. You will need to buy ones for external or in the upper 5.5 drive bays. Case suggestion: have a look at more cases or get another recomendation or review of these. You might get better for the price. But I'm sitting at a price of 25-35 dollars max. second one might be better if you aren't going to expand more but the first has more room. and there is a 35 dollar version of the first one! PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817139028 70-10(instant savings till 8/13) -20(rebate) $50 Spare Lan card!: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16833555022 $8.99 This is incase the motherboards lan can have a crap out driver issues with windows potentially. It can but there is a driver on HP's site to fix it(make sure you download them if you buy this board right away just in case. Not sure how often it happens. It may not be often. Plus you will always have a PCI lan card to spare. It can be a lifesaver. I would put a PCIe1x but they are more expensive. When there are no more PCI slots on boards upgrade to a PCI1x so that is is cheaper later! Always have a spare Lan/network ability! This has no taxes in it. This is also post Rebates so you will pay more upfront. The final mockup will show pre rebates. Code:
Full Price mockup: (Coming Soon) Cheapest Build: HDD: $70 + $4 shipping SDD: $50 Vid: $265 - $30(rebate) = $235 +5 for EVGA version $240 CD/DVD: $20max OS: $100 Moniter: $170 - 10(rebate) + 9 shipping! $169 Case: $25-35 Cross fingers! PSU: $80-10(promo code till 8/13) - $20(rebate) $50 Not sure if the promo is before or after it is $70. It may only cost $40!? have to apply the promo after logging in and see. needs to be checked for compatibity like everything else. (optional) Lan Card: $9 Base - promo + shipping(= upfront price) - rebates = total (After rebates) $780 -10?(not sure may already be included or not) + $13 - 60 (3 rebates $30, $20, $10) = 793 or 783(upfront) - 60= $733 or $723 AMD: CPU: 160 - 20(promo code) $140 MOBO: 90 - 10(rebate) $80 RAM: $45 $195 - $20(promo till 8/13) - 10(rebate) = 175(upfront) - 10(1 rebate) Intel: CPU: $125 MOBO: $85 RAM: $45 $155 total and upfront! AMD = 793 or 783 + 175 = $968 - $958(upfront) - $70(4 rebates $30, $20, $10, $10) = $898 or $888 after rebate Intel = 793 or 783 + 155 = $948 or $938(upfront) - $60(3 rebates $30, $20, $10) = $888 or $878 after rebate Something doesn't look right about those prices. They should be higher in my mind. I might have calculated wrong! If you can find a generic code for X% off newegg purchase that will be good for this situation since this is a $1000 purchase. Anyone know any? ****Make sure you check the PSU for full cord support and power need. I didnt look yet to double check. Wait and see if anyone comes on to double check also. And look at the case. I'm not sure if those are good under the circumstances. Though they sound ok! Last edited by Ait'al; 2012-08-13 at 04:01 PM. |

If you go AMD it's the FX4170 or nothing. Clock speed is going to help way more than 2 more cores, and you even save money.
But at $125 bucks the i3 2120 is better in almost everything. Tom's doesn't recommend any AMD cpus at any price level right now.

I was figureing if if didn't matter for gaming since the GPU could handle it he could use it for stuff that could use the multicores. Plus it's $130. Does the i3 really beat out the second highest FX CPU at that range? I figured it wouldn't matter enough at this point.
He could save the money for other components. I'm running an AMD Phenom II 1100T and don't notice any problems in anything. Maybe I'm not running big enough games though. I'm assuming mechwares and PS2 won't kill the processor. Especially if it gets the system in his price range. http://www.squidoo.com/gaming-cpu The FX6200 is number 5 with the i7's below the i5 2500 at number one. What is a good Intel equivilant then? Mobo/CPU. 8) Last edited by Ait'al; 2012-08-07 at 08:21 PM. |
