I disagree on almost all points of the Original Poster.
I was a Closed Beta 2003 Veteran. I also played several years with pauses PS. And PS2 feels like PS1 when there are enougfh players fighting around. Basedesign could be more Castleish/ more like a Fortress, less open, BUT the masses always dieing at 2 or 3 Chokepoints is also BORING/Frustating. My feeling is, PS2 is moving on Planetsides path and evolving in the right direction. GReetz Gortha |

I'll join those disagreeing with the OP. Graphics wise there are some rough textures, particularly things like rocks when up close, but in general it looks great (and I'm only using a GTX 460 on med settings). Some of the bases are stunning and it's beautiful to look at during the night when there's a large scale battle going on.
I don't have a problem with flying either. It took practice to get to grips with, but I don't think it's overly difficult and it's enjoyable once you get the hang of it. There are some problems with the game, but the developers are aware of them and are actively working to improve it as you'd expect in the beta phase. |

But then... this:
The game undoubtedly has a lot of issues at the moment, some of them objective and some that are more subjective to different peoples personal taste. All of these should certainly be made known to the developers, so that the objective problems can get worked out, and so that the majority voice can possibly influence the subjective matters. Being constructive with our criticism is key here (although bitching and whining about blatantly broken bugs does have it's place). I'm really impressed with the game even in it's current partially broken state myself. I've also seen some really impressive improvements in the optimization, gameplay and content in the few weeks that I've been participating. Maybe it's the fact that I always liked the first game as a whole, but hated most of the nitty gritty of the gameplay, but Planetside 2 is really shaping up to be my ideal successor to the first game. Obviously it's not going to please everyone, but I definitely hope that some of the improvements coming down the pipe will make it a game that most vets will enjoy even if there are a few changes that they don't prefer, because I have a feeling that Planetside 2 is going to be huge. PS1 had an awesome community, and I don't want to see almost any of them left behind for what will undoubtedly be an amazing experience in the sequel. |

@Xyntech
+1 Internetz to you, sir. It's not that people can't express their opinions or that every opinion should be positive. The thing that's irritating is people behaving like this is a finished product. You haven't been "let down", yet, no matter what your feelings are, because the game ISN'T FINISHED YET. It's not even close to being done. There's two more continents that will be starkly different from the one we have, there will be dozens of alternate weapons added in for both the classes and the vehicles, entire base layouts and game mechanics are different from when I started two weeks ago... How can you say they've "failed" at this point? They're working VERY hard to NOT fail. 90% of the game features that will make it what they're aiming for have not been fully implemented yet. It is NOT a "game" yet. It is a game that is in development. DEVELOPMENT. You all understand what that means, right? It has to start somewhere, it's not just suddenly a finished and polished product. It's a gradual progression toward release as new features are added and TESTED. Tested? That's right, as time goes on, things are both added and removed for the sake of TESTING. What would happen if Liberators could drop tactical nukes? Only one way to find out. Add them in the game and see what the players do. Too powerful? Take them back out and try something else. See what we did there? We TESTED something. Just because something is one way today, does not mean that's the final draft of it. So chill your littles asses. If you don't like how things are going, then voice an opinion (note: not emo-rage or whine or "I hate you all you're doing it wrong"), be constructive (offer solutions to your complaint rather than just saying "no you") and continue TESTING the product that is DEVELOPMENT. Acting surprised that the game is "broken" or "incomplete" or "shallow" is retarded considering it's not DONE yet. Of course it feels "lacking".... because it IS! |

I can confirm this, I've been in a lot of betas and the classic "it's just a beta" excuse never ever turned out to be true. It is just an excuse deluded people use. |

It's not about it being a finished product, we have to give feedback on what we're given and I'm just saying in this state I wont be playing. Tbh I'm not playing, I've uninstalled and I have no interest in playing any time soon. I'm not an idiot, I know how games are made and I know that lots of things I have a problem with cannot be fixed because it's too late down in the line. The last company I expect to fix anything after the shambles of their previous MMO history is SOE lol.
Dayz has proven there is a market for the hardcore, people don't tend to be put off by hard games. Minecraft is a pretty hard game in that you aren't told what to do and it isn't that intuitive with certain things and yet it is because it's basically Lego. However it's so popular and it has sold millions because of word of mouth. SOE hasn't worked on that idea, they really wanna dumb down their games and turn them into clones of existing games to try and make something popular. SWG, EQ and EQ2 are games I once loved from SOE and yet they've all just turned into WoW. People are gonna argue with that but take EQ2 for example, it was a 100% group based game past like level 13 where the quests were dotted around but were unique, no indication on who gave quests etc etc. Now you solo to the end level, barely any grouped content, you can tank like 10 mobs at once, crafting has been dumbed down and theres quest icons etc. Planetside 2 for me feels like Battlefield 3 meets COD... it just doesn't feel like Planetside at all and so many people I know who loved Planetside hate it. I feel like why call it Planetside 2? The name means nothing to people who will love this game and for old fans they're most likely going to be angry like me. I'm not gonna cry about it, just not gonna play so cya, given my feedback already on the official forums. Probably been flamed and told to go back to COD or WoW like the usual response. |

Then leave. Obviously this isn't the game for you. Let those of us who do and are enjoying the game actually enjoy it without ignorant people like you dragging everything down. Normally when I don't like a game, I don't hang around the fan forums belittling it.

Disagree with pretty much all of it, sounds to me like you wanted PS1 with updated graphics. Well... That wasn't going to happen, if you want to play with your clunky inventory system, have aircraft handling akin to flying a hockey puck, terribly compact base designs then resub to PS1. You will be happy to hear they are keeping the servers open for the foreseeable future !! Personally I'm having a blast.. Give it 2-3 months and hopefully you will come around to it, the game is very raw at the moment but still hella fun.

Not going to go too far into it but, I totally disagree with the OP. Most of what I see in the OP whining that things are too hard (graphic bugs aside). I'm having a fucking blast. I finally learned how to fly, have been in some wicked big tank battles, some crazy last man standing infantry fights and I can say that I'm fucking loving it.
I feel bad for other that are not liking it because it seems that they also hate every other game ever made (except for PS1) and there is likely not a game that exists that will make them happy. It seems like it would be a sad lonely existence to spend all your time hating everything but, to each their own I guess. |

How old is that information? I remember him saying that way back when Planetside 2 was announced. As much as I love the game, at the moment it may as well close down as there's rarely even 50 people playing it at what used to be peak time, which is sad to see.
Everybody is playing PS2 beta now, which is what SOE presumably wants. They don't want people ignoring Planetside 2 beta and playing Planetside 1 instead. When the time is right though, I hope that Planetside gets the "facelift" that Smed originally promised. It's still a grand old game and it deserves to be updated. I'd happily pay to play both, either via joint subscription or through cash shop items. Incidentally, pretty much all of the things that Thom "Enrico Pallazo" Terrazas was talking about being added to Planetside when he was Producer (weapon variants, vehicle variants, swappable MAX weapons, jetpacks etc) are all to be found in Planetside 2, so at some point the decision was made to stop adding stuff to Planetside 1 and save all the new and interesting stuff for Planetside 2. At least we know where all of our sub money went over those awful years of zero support and no new content Last edited by RobUK; 2012-09-08 at 04:33 AM. |
