Re: SOE Announces Player Studio

If they make it happen in Germany and the Netherlands for Planetside 2, i could eventually manage to afford Art School that way.

It would be fundamentally awesome for me personally, and im sure for a lot of folks in a similar situation than me as well (Low on cash, want to get into the industry as an artist). It basically allows us to get good quality work Into big well known games, and even earn cash that way. Its brilliant. Lets say I make a Different Skin for a Gun or a Sword for Ps2 or EQ2 or Vanguard, and it gets sold for 2 bucks. Let 100 people buy it, and i just made 80 bucks (completly ignoring taxes right now, the price is random anyway). Let it be an absolutly awesome piece of work that many people like, sell 1000 copies of them, and 800 just get to me.

This is WTFPWN. Really. Im amazed. Im sitting in Germany, infront of my PC, and im completly thrilled.

AWESOME FUCKING THING SOE! ABSOLUTLY AWESOME!

I am hoping they allow for alternate chassis for the vehicles. They would otherwise function identically as their class of vehicle, while simply looking different. I would like to make some new fighters. 3D modelling is the ultimate Lego!

It should be noted that many of us asked for this kind of system to be added to Star Wars Galaxies years ago. So there ya go, SOE listening to the community and making things happen, eventually.

That's pretty cool, I'm all over this. Hoping it allows use of standard 3D file formats and software.

Need to think of silhouetting. If you start to change the physical design of say an aircraft, suddenly you're not identifying it's a Mossie/Reaver/Scythe. You're seeing a random aircraft. If you shoot it, you may cause Grief. If you don't not knowing what it is, you may get shot down.

"A complete and fundamental shift for SoE" Seems like it was to me.

Its interest but i echo concerns for changes to any geometry, from helmets to vehicles if you are messing with their sillohette then you are effect target recognition. I'm all for skins though.

MMO Industry.

And there is a difference between valve and SOE. Vavles approach is similar, but the actual userbase that could buy your stuff is big, but limited.

With SOE, the concept now has a much bigger userbase that could buy stuff. This means those of us who can do 3d Modeling and Texturing now have a much bigger audience. Not just because more actual players, but also because its much more likley that someone buys a skin in an MMO.

Time to once again have plenty of sleepless nights with Blender. For that alone im happy. <3

My first submission would be a reminder to take that excellent Sky Lance model, mount one on the roof at Allatum, stat it appropriately, and go.
