And I would not call my self a BF3 fanboy. Sure I admit that I think its the best FPS game that been released during the last 5 years or so. But FPS games are not even my main type of games. I'm allot bigger fan of the Total War series then I'm with Battlefield. But I would say that my main type of games are old school MMORPGs. So if you want to call me a fanboy call me an EQ fanboy. |

Am I the only one that actually prefers BF3?
PS 2 atm seems to lack 3 major things: Prolonged action, focus and accomplishment. As a newbie, you feel totally desolated. Way too much downtime to get into any action and once you managed to get in, you die in seconds. Unless you are lucky to find some organized and communicating squad which happened to me only once, this game is downright boring so far. I really hope my luck will change, because atm I'm feeling this PS1 syndrome. I could never get into that game because of the downtime. Don't get me wrong, I prefer the tactical and strategic potential of PS2 by far over the relatively shallow game play of BF3 but that game has at least some pretty important basics right: - Focus. Especially on Rush modus: it's always clear were you need to go. - Awesome and non-stop action: Zero downtime and shooting Karkand to rubbles on a high-end PC is an unmatched experience. Weapon handling is tight, although COD is better at this. - Decent variety. Enough weapons, maps, game modes and expansions to suit your needs. - Balance. It's always work in progress but especially after the latest patch, many issues were fixed without going overboard. The balance between instant action/fulfillment and strategy/accomplishment is always a delicate and a hot debated one. On one side of the spectrum you have Eve Online (I got a lot of accomplishment out of that game but it's 99% down time) and on the other COD (-like) games. Instant action but that's more or less it. PS2 and BF3 are in between these on there own side of the spectrum, but so far BF3 has done a way better job at exploiting its strengths imo. PS2 desperately needs more focus, accomplishment and tools for tactical coordination. |

Thks for the advice, that's what I figured as well. So after seeing some nice massive Max crashing and carpet bombing on Total Biscuit's PAX video's, I decided to join the Devil Dogs outfit. That immediately made for a way better gaming experience, although I'm still not 100% sold on the pacing of the game.
