I know this thread is out of date, but there's a couple of places people might find useful.
- This article. - This subreddit. Windows 8 also seems to be a far more enjoyable experience if you go into it wanting/willing to learn a new UI, instead of trying to use it like Windows 7 and being annoyed that it isn't. |

I just want to be able to turn the damn touchscreen UI off and use my screen real estate like win7.
The improvements in background functionality are pretty amazing, as Vancha's first link there shows.

ps2 runs on win8 on my rig. that's all i've used throughout beta. the interface sucks but it's not horrible once you figure out how to get to all the same crap you have in win7. i pretty much ignore the metro side of it and just run off the desktop portion. i definitely felt like bf3 when i had it installed pre ps2 ran better on win8 than win7.

You can completely get rid of the awful metro UI and it's much nicer to use \o/ Last edited by Nasher; 2012-10-27 at 03:52 PM. |

From XP to 8 here, I enjoy the fast bootup time; but mostly I just use the start screen to get to the desktop, and try to make everything like I'm used to (shortcuts on desktop instead of start screen). Having me enter a password every time I reboot is a little annoying, as well as the movement of the shutdown menu.
It also defaulted some power options to shut off the computer, and my second hard drive that runs XP after some time. This unfortunately caused some problems, like an overnight 5gb PS2 patch to be disrupted (grr, bit pissed in the morning when I went to play), as well as some funky things like having to wait for my 2nd hard drive to boot up - after talking in Ventrilo fine I had clicked something on the actual program which startled it awake (my Ventrilo is installed on hard drive #2). Fixed those issues as soon as they came up without problems. The only reason I got Windows 8 was the 3.2gb RAM that XP was knocking me down to was insufficient to play Planetside 2. Runs great now though. Last edited by Squeegeez; 2012-11-02 at 06:05 AM. |
