Campaigns, add depth and longevity to the game.

My Idea, in it's most basic form, is:

Add a long-term (relatively) goal to gameplay besides the perpetual capture and loss of bases.

Say every week or month you talley up the most kills by faction or most bases capped or defended. Basically the end match scores from Modern warfare or battlefield.

This gives the player an over-arching goal besides the next weapon/veh/implant/battlerank/upgrade unlock.

This was as basic as I could make it but the possibilities are endless. Similar system has already been succesfully been implented in other "games"

-Campaigns and Operations in actual warfare

-Seaons in professional sports

-Other mmo's with realm-wide goals.

In ps2 terms it could be as easy as:

-Recording the most kills/base caps/vehicles destroyed/revived persons

or as complicated as

- disabling all aircraft for the period of the "season, campaign, operation, week" and discounting the price on armor for said time period.

Thoughts.

I think your idea is good and pretty prevalent throughout all mmo's. However, maybe a small story about your char elevating through the ranks in the chosen faction just might be more engaging.

Maybe a story that eludes to some huge event auraxis wide. ie mayan calendar, planet x, the coming of the end, a chosen soldier that will appear etc..

Take the written lore and actually connect it to each person. As there are 100 battle ranks, a milestone achievement at 100 would be pretty cool.

I know when I play super Monday night combat and at the end of a grueling match, a retro present appears on the screen with cheesy lights saying you've got a prize somehow makes me feel .... dang I deserved that!

more content is always a plus and makes me want to reach into my wifes errr ehem my deep wallet.
