Why are they going small scale? They could have improved the regional gameplay that was broken in Simcity 4.

They could have gone larger scale like this:

In an interview they said one of the reasons they are going small scale is performance. They also want people more involved in the smaller scale simulation.

Can't wait for the fifth. I had the original on my wii and have Sim City Box set (Sim city 4, Destinations, Snap city, and expansions for 4 and Destinations).

I'm definitely in. I've been watching it for maybe 3 weeks. Ign did a little walk through of the demo, and I was hooked. I can see losing days playing.

Re: Sim City

I grew up with sim city and often played sim city 2k on a mac in highschool, loved sim city 3k and sim city 4. only thing about this one that annoys me is the need for origin, and the fact that comcast cant route packets for shit and likes to go down quite randomly.

the one major question that needs answering and planning for is, "what the fuck happens when ea eventually retires the sim city 5 servers and i want to continue to play?". if the answer is, "nothing. you lose access to the game FOREVER!" that is not acceptable.

No, you still technically need to be connected to EA servers either way. Apparently (and i think this is bullshit) they allow their servers to do some of the computations for the game and the engine.

Seems like the launch is going anything but smoothly.

Not surprised

Staggered releases, game companies still can't figure that out.

One thing I could see putting people off is having to log onto a server, that might be pop locked to play something that they basicly see as being a single player experience.
Hope this doesn't turn into Diablo 3 all over again, when it comes to the always online requirement.

it is already. whats more is like you said, the always on thing. i did a bit of ~scary maths~ on what i know about the game, and it seems like to me that ea is doing the always on thing more for the sake of treating it like an MMO that people play alone and the drm aspect of it than actual need of computational power. in other words it seems like its treating the consumer with hostility because people like to crack games for the challenge of it.

my bet is it'll be cracked and functioning offline within 2 months. d3 was cracked inside a month.

I'm sure it will be cracked.

I would agree all their reasons for online only are excuses to use DRM.

TB ripping EA. the "three bug bears" are pretty much spot on.
